Here comes Easter! This is one of my favorite seasons. Everything is fresh, trees are blooming, and these days I get to play Easter bunny for my kids — which is maybe the most fun of all. I’m finding that holidays are even better when you get to see them through your kids’ eyes. We are trying this year to steer clear of piles of candy and sugar around Easter, so I teamed with the gang at Wonderful Halos to come up with a simple, fun way to celebrate the holiday with healthy snacks. Halos are one of our go-tos around these parts – I toss them in my bag all the time to have on hand when Henry (or Ryan and I!) need a snack break. These printable bunny boxes just so happen to be the perfect size to house a Halo mandarin!

Materials

Make Time: 5 Minutes per box

Step 1: Download and print our printable bunny box template onto your cardstock.

Step 2: Cut along all solid lines. Crease the box inward along the dotted lines.

Step 3: Place a Halo in the center of the box. Fold the vertical flaps inward and then the horizontal flaps over the top, forming the box. Slide the two interlocking pieces together to create the bunny shape.

Step 4: Use a small piece of double-stick tape on the back of each ear piece to affix it to either ear. Mix and match ear colors for a fun contrast.

I love these little guys! I think we might wrap up a whole bunch of Halos and give them to Henry’s little pals at school. They’re the perfect project for a crafternoon with the kiddos – let them help choose colors and cut out the shapes, and you can construct the boxes together. Pop those little mandarins inside and it’s an adorably healthy Easter gift. Happy making! xoxo

I lift my lamp.

I’m not political. I’m just not, and I make no apologies for it. But I do still love my country and I love all people and I love love. Things just seem out of control in our world right now and it feels right to combat it by adding beauty to the world. So when Isabela and I were talking about what we could draw for you this month, we hit on something that felt right. You can download this design to print in 11″x14″ format, or download for a computer desktop below.

Do you know this poem? It’s at the base of the Statue of Liberty. I remember reading it on one of my visits there when I lived in NYC.

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Every Little Thing is Gonna Be Alright

Hey dolls! Welcome to our new series, Drawn To You! The premise is simple — we wanted to give you something cool every month. Because we love you and think you’re the greatest, truly. And since we can’t show up on every one of your doorsteps with flowers and candy, we decided that some original hand-drawn art could be just as good. So we teamed with artist Isabela Humphrey on our very first Drawn To You collaboration!

Isa is so talented, and I thought her style would be just perfect to tackle this phrase. I’ve been needing a little encouragement lately, and if you have too then this one’s for you. It’s available as printable wall art, a phone wallpaper, and computer wallpaper. Choose your favorite (or all of them!) and download away. Or if you just want to save it for a rainy day, pin it to your Pinterest boards and spread the love around. The printable art is sized at 11 x 14″, so you can either resize to print at home or take it to a print shop and have it printed. I think it looks pretty great at full size!

So, from us to you, enjoy! And if you have any requests for your next hand-drawn gift, we’re all ears. Mwah! xoxo

DIY Printable Christmas Cards

It’s here! The Christmas season! Now that Thanksgiving has passed I can officially go holiday hog-wild and nobody can give me side-eye about it. (Even though, let’s be real, I’ve been listening to Christmas music since the day after Halloween. It can’t be helped.) Anyway, now that we’re in full swing, we’ve got a printable for you to kick off the season. If you need to send some Christmas cards or attach a little note to a holiday gift, we’ve got ya. These are as simple as download, print, and give — and around this time of year simple is good.

Materials

Make Time: 20 Minutes

Step 1: Download our holiday card printable. Note: This is a special file meant to work with Avery’s Design & Print Online platform, so don’t fret if it seems like it didn’t download properly! Just carry on to the next step.

Step 2: Open the files at avery.com/open.

Step 3: Choose to print on the Note Cards (product #8315).

Step 4: Insert the image into the card template, and follow the instructions through to print! Use the toolbar on the left to add any text you might like; you can even print on both sides if you’d like to print a message on the inside of your cards.

Step 5: Once your image is complete, print on the blank card sheet. Separate the cards, trim if desired, and you’re all set.

Have fun addressing your cards! Do you like sending Christmas or holiday cards? I’ve always loved it. I know it’s a ton of work but there’s just something so lovely about getting them in the mail and I can’t stop sending them. Hope these come in handy for you this season! xoxo

How to Make an Accordion Mother's Day Card

I still don’t think it’s actually hit me that I’m a mom when Mother’s Day rolls around. I still hear “Mother’s Day” and immediately think of my own sweet mom, who I love to celebrate. It’s so fun every year to dream up a little project for her and post it on the blog and then give it to her in real life. She always makes a big deal and says something about getting a famous gift because it’s been “on the blog.” Ha! What a kook. So this year we put together a fun accordion card printable, so you can give the same little card to your mom! They’re super simple and fast to make and will work for all the moms in your life.

Materials

Make Time: 15 Minutes

How to Make an Accordion Mother's Day Card

Step 1: Download the printable file here. Note: These are special files meant to work with Avery’s Design & Print Online platform, so don’t fret if it seems like they didn’t download properly! Just carry on to the next step.

Step 2: Open the files at avery.com/open.

Step 3: Choose to print on the Wraparound Labels (product #8217). (You will be able to print two cards on one label sheet.)

Step 4: Once printed, peel off the labels and stick them to your colored cardstock.

Step 5: Cut around the edges of the labels. Cut off the excess white area from the portion of the card that reads “Day;” leave the excess white on the other portion.

Step 6: Score a line between all colored sections so that you can fold into an accordion. Fold the card to train the folds in the direction you’d like.

Step 7: Spread the glue stick on the blank white portion and adhere the top of the second half of the card to the white area.

If you’d like, fold it up and tie it with some baker’s twine so it looks like a little tiny gift! This thing is so stinkin’ cute I want to hand it out to every mom I know. But they’ll all just have to deal because it’s got my mama’s name all over it. Also feel free to put little notes in the blank spots and sign it like you would any card! I think we might have Henry help decorate this one for my mom. She just looooves that stuff. 😉 Happy Mother’s Day! xoxo

We’re back with more fun travel-inspired DIYs for you, thanks to Carnival Cruise Line! This one is simple as print, cut, and dress up your cell phone for your spring and summer travels! Our new graphic designer extraordinaire, Megan Roy, helped us bring our summery dreams to life with three gorgeous, super-cool designs so you can switch ’em out whenever you like. I’m currently rocking the colorful citrus design on my phone and it’s got me dreaming of jumping on a ship to some far-off island. Spring break, anyone?!

This one is beyond simple! Just print out the file corresponding to your phone size — Small or Large. Cut around the outer edge of the design you like, and cut out the designated hole for the camera. Slip the paper into your clear phone case and put the case onto your phone. Ta-daaaaa! Your phone is travel-ready.

I love these! Megan did such a bang-up job, and perfectly encapsulated some spring and summer vibes to dress up your tech a little bit. (For more of her awesome design work, be sure to check out her shop and follow along on Instagram!). I mean, these patterns!

Trio of Summer Patterns

Lately when I travel I’ve been relying way more on my smartphone for capturing photos than on my large camera, and that’s another reason why I’m loving these pretty covers. The case keeps your phone safe while you’re photographing your adventures, with a pretty pop of color that you can change every day if you want! Do you mostly use your phone for photographs when you’re traveling? I always bring my DSLR but after a day or two it ends up staying in my suitcase because it’s just so much simpler to carry your phone. So which design would you pick for your next vacay? Or just to get that vacay feeling if you’re staying home for spring break? 😉 xoxo

P.S. Floral painted sunglasses for your travels!

You know when you move into a new place and you have trouble finding the perfect thing to decorate a certain wall and so eventually you just give up the fight and the wall stays blank for years? Yeah, that. We’ve had these two sad spots in our master bedroom since we moved in, and we couldn’t for the life of us figure out what to put there! I just couldn’t find the right photo or art, and I’m notoriously fickle when it comes to decorating so I didn’t just want to go punching a bunch of holes in our walls to hang art that I only half liked. So I finally, finally came up with a solution — make our own art! And we partnered with Command to hang them using Command™ Picture Hanging Strips so that even if I change my mind, our walls will still be perfectly clean.

Step 1: Download one or both of our printable posters (Always Weekending, size 16×20″ or Everything is Awesome, size 18×24″). Take the file to your local print shop and have them create your color prints. Insert the printed posters into your frames.

Step 2: As described on the Command packaging, clean the surfaces where you’d like to adhere your picture hanging strips.

Step 3: Separate the strips.

Step 4: Press strips together.

Step 5: Remove the green liner from one side of the strip and apply it to the back of your frame.

Step 6: Remove the green liner from the other side of the strip and press firmly onto the wall, holding as directed on the packaging.

Hey, I love these! They’re just the fresh pop of color I wanted for the master bedroom walls, with some sayings that we absolutely love and try to live by (yes, I truly believe that everything is, in fact, awesome). And my darling husband loves the fact that our walls are safe and sound with no extra holes thanks to the hanging strips, because invariably in about 6 months I’ll decide that it’s time to rearrange all the art. A perfect solution for my total lack of decor decisiveness! So I gotta know — which would you hang, and where? xoxo

2016

Hey lovelies — here we are. Back at the start with another chance to do it right. Isn’t that a beautiful thing?

This has become a tradition around here, and one of my favorites. I don’t do resolutions, but at the end of every year I sit down and think through what I need to focus on in the future. I boil it all down and it becomes this: a barometer of how I’m living, whether I’m on the right path, and where I’d like to be in a year’s time. Pretty much none of it is tangible or quantifiable. It’s more about what’s inside. And for me, I’ve always found that when what’s inside feels good, what’s outside tends to fall into place.

You should go back and read through my old ones (links are below). It’s pretty interesting to see what’s stuck around, what’s totally new, and what’s cycled back in from a previous year. Do any of these ring true for you? What would be on your list? In case this gets ya right in your ever-lovin’ heart, you can download it to add to your desktop as a little hug from me to you. Let’s make this year a beauty. xoxo
