Why I love Entertaining with Champagne Cocktails
The Kir Royale recipe only has a couple of ingredients (although I included a little something extra in my recipe below). But even though champagne cocktails like the Kir Royale are simple to make, they definitely feel elevated.
I love serving them up when I entertain for so many reasons!
Firstly, you can put them together in a snap, so you’re not stuck playing bartender for too long. Also, they look and feel very fancy and sophisticated but they’re usually minimal ingredients — major bang for your buck.
And finally, they always taste great.
Add these other champagne or sparkling wine cocktails to your arsenal too:

What is a Kir Royale Cocktail?
Ever heard of one? It’s soooo French, non? Mais oui. I had my first one on a trip to Paris in college and I felt tres chic.
The Kir Royale is a fancy take on the Kir, which was a drink popular in 19th century France. The Kir is made with white wine and crème de cassis.
After WWII, the Kir became even more popular and mixologists started riffing on it, trying champagne or sparkling wine in place of the white wine. And so the Kir Royale was born!
It’s not fussy but it feels very French in a lovely, delicious, bubbly way.

Ingredients for a Kir Royale Cocktail
You’ll only need two ingredients, although I added a third optional idea just for fun.
Champagne. I recommend a mid-range bottle of bubbles; you don’t have to choose anything too pricey. Try to find something dry (meaning not too sweet), as the crème de cassis will sweeten it up significantly. You don’t want to create something overly sweet.
Crème de Cassis. Crème de cassis is a liqueur made from macerated black currants. It has a rich, deep sweetness of delicious ripe berries.
Edible Flower Petals. Fresh or dried, edible flower petals add a fun and romantic feel to the cocktail when you sprinkle them on top. You could also use fresh berries for garnish, or leave it just as-is. Another traditional garnish idea is a lemon twist.

Kir Royale Cocktail
It’s simple to make!
- Start by pouring about 1/2 ounce of crème de cassis into a champagne flute. If you like your drinks on the sweeter side you could do a heavier pour, or vice versa if you don’t like overly sweet cocktails.
- Top with champagne. The pour will do the mixing for you, as the crème de cassis gently swirls into the champagne.
- If you like, add your garnish.
