What is a Spaghett Cocktail? (and Why I Love It)
Simply put, a Spaghett is an Aperol Spritz cocktail where you substitute in a cheap light beer for the prosecco.
The result is a crisp, refreshing, and absolutely delicious, simple cocktail – especially refreshing in the summer.
I love the Spaghett because sometimes, as much as I love an Aperol Spritz, they can be a bit on the sweet side for me. Using a beer substitute tempers that sweetness without losing the feel of the spritz.
I also love that they’re incredibly easy to make (especially with our hack, below!), and totally affordable.
The Spaghett is a surefire crowdpleaser not just for its taste, but for the unexpected way that the combination of beer and Aperol just works so well together.

What’s Up with the Name “Spaghett?”
As far as I can tell, the name originates with a character on the Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!
There’s a character known as Spaghett, who kind of shows up where he doesn’t belong and doesn’t understand that he’s not supposed to be there. So this unexpected cocktail seems to be named for this awkward dude.
Bon Apetit popularized the drink after writing this piece about Wet City Brewing, who had been making Spaghetts in their Baltimore location. It was wildly popular locally and became more widespread thanks to the article.
And lucky for us, now we can all enjoy this perfectly summery cocktail!

Ingredients You’ll Need
A cheap, light beer. The best recommendation I can make is that you try this with the champagne of beers: Miller High Life. It’s got the perfect light, bubbly consistency and flavor. But I have also tried Coors Light which works perfectly well! Stick to light beers for this one — nothing deep, dark, or too spendy.
Aperol. This bright orange apéritif is crucial to the Spaghett! You can find it near the liqueurs at the grocery or liquor store. While Aperol may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I find it completely refreshing, especially when drinking it as a spritz or mixed into a Spaghett.
Fresh lemon juice. Make it fresh, friends! Lemon juice brightens up the flavor of the cocktail, tempers the bitterness of the Aperol, and blends perfectly with the beer. I can’t recommend enough that you use fresh juice. (Life hack: juice your lemons when they’re ready and freeze the juice into ice cubes! Then you’ve always got some on hand.)

Two Ways to Mix a Spaghett Cocktail
There are two ways to make a Spaghett, depending on how fancy you want to be and how many dishes you want to wash.
Mix in a Glass
- Pour a beer into a chilled glass.
- Add 1 oz Aperol, or more to taste.
- Add 1/2 oz lemon juice.
- Gently mix and enjoy.

Mix in a Bottle
- Open a bottle of beer and take the first swig.
- To the open bottle, add your Aperol and lemon juice. Add a wedge to the bottle if you like that sort of thing.
- With this method, I like to do the old “Corona swirl,” by covering the mouth of the bottle with my thumb and flipping it briefly upside down to mix the ingredients.

Enjoy your new favorite drink all summer (or whenever you need that summer feeling). Cheers!
