These printable glasses have been in my head since summertime. Seriously! I don’t know what spurred the idea but I’ve been waiting and waiting until it was finally Valentine’s Day so I could make them for myself and the kids. They’re so fun for playing around (I have a secret plan for them and my kiddos on Valentine’s Day morning) and would be super fun as a Valentine for classmates or girlfriends! And if you don’t want to give them away just keep them for yourself because we made YOU rose-colored glasses for Valentine’s Day!
- printable glasses template or cutting machine template
- white cardstock or patterned cardstock
- optional: cutting machine like the Cricut
- clear tape
- red or pink red or pink cellophane wrap
Make Time: 5 Minutes per pair
Step 1: Download the template of your choice and print or cut. If you like our XO pattern, download and print, and cut out all three pieces. You’ll probably find it easiest to use a pair of scissors for the outer edges and a craft knife for the inner parts of the sunglasses. If you’d like to use a cutting machine like the Cricut, download our cutting machine file and have the machine cut the shapes out of a patterned cardstock. We do recommend a heavier weight paper like cardstock, to keep the glasses nice and firm.
Step 2: Fold in the small tabs on either side of the heart glasses. Try to fold them so that they create a nice, straight crease and they’re folded at a 90 degree angle.
Step 3: Use a small piece of clear tape to attach the arms to the tabs on either side of the glasses. Wrap the tape around the arm and the tab, holding them carefully together and smoothing down the tape.
Step 4: If you like them just like that, you’re done! But if you want to make your glasses rose-colored, continue on to Step 5.
Step 5: Cut a small piece of cellophane wrap into a heart shape that fits behind the opening of the sunglasses with a little room to spare on all sides (a margin of about 1/4″ – 1/2″ should be plenty.) Affix the cellophane wrap to the back of the glasses with small pieces of tape. We used about 4 small pieces of tape for each piece of cellophane, spreading them evenly around the edge of the cellophane. Do this for both sides of the sunglasses.
Ta-daaaaa! Does everything look better now? I was so surprised that Henry was so down for taking pictures with these things. He did the whole kissy lip thing all by himself! Maybe he’s seen me do one too many photo shoots? I also keep trying to think of puns to attach to these if you wanted to give them as Valentines. “Looking good, Valentine!” “I only have eyes for you.” “You make life sunny.” Anybody else have a good one? Hope you try these! If you make some, be sure to share with us on Instagram and use #thelovelysquad so we can see how yours turn out. Have fun! xoxo
