Dress up your mantel this year with a quick and simple DIY! This Christmas mantel garland is an easy way to showcase your favorite ornaments.

When we asked a few years back what kind of projects you all love during the holiday season, the overwhelming response was that everybody is looking for quick and easy decorations!
I dug out all of our Christmas goodies and realized I had the exact thing — a quick and easy DIY ornament garland for your mantel.
This is actually something that I put together a few years ago for our own Christmas decorations and I just completely forgot to share it. And best of all, it just takes two materials and actually five minutes.

A Christmas Mantel Garland with Lots of Charm
I love this little Christmas garland for so many reasons!
It brings plenty of personality to your mantel, especially if you have some special ornaments you’d like to display. It’s also a way to show off a few extra ornaments if your tree is particularly full.
The color and texture that it brings to a Christmas mantel is such a lovely addition to the rest of your holiday decor.
And finally? It’s so easy to create!

Supplies You’ll Need
It’s a very minimal list of supplies, and you most likely already have everything you need at home. (Another reason why I love this project!)
Materials
- Christmas ornament set (ours are from Target a few years back, but I think these would work really well for the garland)
- Thick string or twine
- Scissors
Make Time: 5 Minutes

How to Make A Christmas Mantel Garland
- Cut a length of twine to the length of your mantel, plus two feet.
- Slip one end of the twine through the loop on your first ornament. Slide it down the twine leaving about a foot of extra twine on the end, and tie the twine in a knot around the ornament loop.
- Keep stringing ornaments onto the twine (from the long end of the string) and knotting them onto the twine. Space them evenly apart. Stop when your garland reaches your desired length.

Caring For and Storing Your Christmas Garland
The only thing to be cautious of, if you’re using glass ornaments, is that they don’t clank together and break as you’re making or hanging your garland.
To pack the garland away each year, I lay it out on the floor and wrap it in tissue paper, then fold it in quarters. Keep it in a storage tub with your other delicate pieces.

Ways to Customize your Garland
It’s such a simple way to use Christmas ornaments but it’s really fun and festive hanging on a mantel. We get so many comments every year about what an easy idea it is and how fun it looks all strung up.
And if you don’t have a mantel, hang it in a doorway, or over your sofa, or just anywhere. You could also apply the same idea to all kinds of different items to create garlands — pinecones, candy canes, bottle brush trees, and more.
Now go deck those halls! xoxo
P.S. A giant pinecone garland and a geometric holiday garland!
