Funfetti Waffle Cake

Be honest — did I have you at “waffle cake?”

Admittedly, I don’t know how I didn’t think of this sooner. After so many years of experimenting with my waffle iron, it seems like I should have hit on making a waffle cake ages ago!

But we’re here now, and there’s no going back.

Unexpected Waffle Ideas

If you’ve been around here for a while, you probably know that I’m a waffle afficianado and I love to experiment.

So to make sure we all reap the benefits of my research, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite waffle ideas below! Make sure you pin or bookmark your favorites so that you can find them easily again.

Reasons to Love Waffle Cake

I mean, not that I need to convince you, but just in case you need some reasons…

Waffle cake is instant gratification! No waiting for a cake to bake and wondering if it’s going to come out right.

It’s also easier to stack than a traditional layer cake; no need to even out the layers or worry whether it will tip over.

And finally (although I could go on forever), you can make it in any flavor that you usually make your cakes! We’re using Funfetti here but any cake batter will work.

Can You Use Cake Mix In a Waffle Maker?

Absolutely you can!

In fact, we’ve put all kinds of things in our waffle maker over the years — pizza dough, tortillas, donuts, and more.

The consistency of your Funfetti cake mix may be a little different than the waffle batter that you’re used to, so give it a test run just in case.

If the batter is thicker, it will spread more slowly and you may need to help it move to the edges of the waffle maker with a spatula or the back of your spoon.

Conversely, if it’s thinner than you’re accustomed to, spoon it out slowly so that it doesn’t run everywhere unexpectedly.

And in case you’re wondering, here’s the waffle maker we used for this recipe.
