Waffle REcipes To Add to the Mix

Waffles are almost their own food group around here, and we have so many fun and unique waffle recipes to try!

Whether you like them sweet or savory, for breakfast or dinner, we’ve got something for ya.

I took the liberty of rounding up some of my favorites from our library, below. Be sure to pin your top picks so that you can find them easily again.

Ingredients You’ll Need

I’m a box mix fan, especially when you can put your own special twist on the mix, like these coffee cake waffles.

Trader Joe’s has some of my favorite mixes for flavor and ease of use, and we’re using one here!

  • Trader Joe’s Cinnamon Crumb Coffee Cake Mix
  • eggs
  • milk
  • vegetable oil
  • butter

Substitutions to try

To make your coffee cake waffles dairy free, try substituting your favorite non-dairy milk. I made ours with almond milk and they turned out beautifully.

You’ll also need to sub in something like Earth Balance butter to make them truly dairy-free.

Can You Use Cake Mix In a Waffle Maker?

You can use all kinds of things in a waffle maker, and cake mix works like a charm!

We’ve not only used cake batter in a waffle maker, but also biscuit dough, pizza dough, tortillas, whole donuts, and lots more.

Don’t be afraid to experiment!

Just be sure to give your waffle irons a quick spritz of nonstick spray before you add your batter to avoid sticking.

The Best Waffle Maker to Use

We have two waffle irons: a square and a round. They’re each great for different purposes!

I love to use the round waffle maker for things like waffle pizza or waffle quesadillas.

For this coffee cake waffle recipe, I used the square waffle maker and under-poured the batter, so that it wouldn’t quite spread to the edges of the waffle irons.

This way, you can create that look of unfinished edges to your waffles.

How tO Make Cinnamon Crumb Coffee Cake Waffles

So let’s make some!

  1. Mix the batter according to the instructions on the box. Add an extra 1/3 cup of milk to the batter.
  2. Mix the crumb topping according to the instructions and set aside.
  3. Fire up your waffle iron! Once it’s hot, drop about two tablespoons of batter into the first waffle tray. Quickly sprinkle about a tablespoon of crumb topping over the batter. Cover the topping with another dollop of waffle batter. Fill all the waffle trays in the same manner.
  4. Close your waffle iron and let the waffles cook per usual.
  5. Once you remove the waffles from the iron, I highly recommend saving a little crumb topping to sprinkle over your waffles on the plate.

Enjoy!

But be warned: Once you experience the Cinnamon Crumb Coffee Cake Waffle there’s no going back to the life you once knew. Have a great week! xoxo
