Valentine’s Day is alllll fun and games until you have a kid. Seriously, forget any big sweeping romantic plans and just get comfy with the fact that you now have an extra mini-Valentine who will probably throw his peas at you while you’re trying to have a civilized dinner. It’s probably a good thing that Ryan and I have never been huge Valentine fanatics because our dreams would be dashed. But even so, you’ve gotta at least try to do a little something special to celebrate, so this year we did an early Valentine’s date at home, since we’ll be traveling on the actual day. I got all inspired when Wayfair came to us and asked what our ideal Valentine’s Day at home would be, because obviously it includes waffles. Waffles, and something to distract Henry while we try to eat them in peace and sip some bubbly, which is why we snagged a teepee for him. Bribing a kid with heart waffles and a teepee apparently works like a charm.
The heart waffles are as simple as it gets!
Materials
- waffle maker
- your fave waffle mix or ingredients
- heart cookie cutters
- fruit
- skewers
Make Time: 20 Minutes
Step 1: Make your favorite waffles!
Step 2: Slice a bunch of fruit in thin slices. Bonus points if you use lots of different colors!
Step 3: Use various sizes of heart cookie cutters to cut out the waffles and fruit.
Step 4: Stack them up, hold together with a skewer, and enjoy!
We had a blast hanging out and getting our waffle on, and Henry thought it was hysterical that he could eat in his little tent instead of at the table. We’re walking on the wild side over here, people.
A couple other faves that made our V-Day so fun? That yellow couch!!! OMG. That baby is going in the new studio and I’m sure you’ll be seeing it around these parts all the dang time. It’s perfect with the little gold side table, too.
What about you? Do you have any Valentine’s Day traditions? Or a favorite thing to do? If you have kids, do you celebrate with them? I cannot WAIT until Henry’s old enough that he and I can secretly DIY a Valentine for Ryan together. Oh man that’s gonna be fun. I’m just picturing me trying to force him to use glitter on everything and him wanted to draw a tractor with hearts on it. In any case, hope these little heart waffles make their way to your Valentine’s table! Big thanks to Wayfair for helping us celebrate in style. xoxo
