pinocchio Halloween Costume for Groups or Families
So let’s break it down! Read on for our list of supplies and tutorials to create a Pinocchio costume, a Jiminy Cricket costume, a Geppetto costume, and a Blue Fairy costume.
I’ve shared links to the items that we specifically used, so the links to the Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket costume pieces are sized for children. If you’re sizing for adults, just switch out the sizes or adjust as needed.
How to Make a Pinocchio Costume
Materials
- black vest
- yellow yarn or trim
- yellow t-shirt
- red shorts
- white gloves
- yellow felt
- red felt
- white felt
- turqouise felt or ribbon
- brown shoes
- sewing supplies
- glue gun
- self-adhesive velcro
- optional: patterned trim
- optional: white cotton rope and scrap wood
- Start by trimming the vest if needed. Pinocchio’s vest is cropped short, just above the waist. Add a strip of yellow yarn or trim around the edges and secure with hot glue.
- Make the collar by cutting a circle of white felt large enough to fit around your child’s neck. Then cut a neck hole to a comfortable size. Add a piece of velcro at the back to secure.
- Create a large bow out of turquoise felt by cutting a large oval, pinching in the center, and securing with hot glue. Glue this to the front center of the white collar.
- Use this tutorial to create the Pinocchio hat. (Add a stripe of turquoise felt by either sewing it down or glueing it on.)
- Optional: glue some patterned trim to the side hems of the red shorts.
- If you like, create marionette strings by tying the white cotton rope onto crossed wood pieces and tying them onto Pinocchio’s wrists. (We used a weaving loom for the wood.)

How to Make a Jiminy Cricket Costume
Materials
- kids tuxedo jacket
- white collar shirt
- orange cardigan
- yellow fabric or scarf
- plain headband
- small paper mâché hat
- blue paint
- red paint or ribbon
- glue gun
- green leggings
- boots
- Jiminy’s Concsience badge (we got ours at Disneyland, but you could easily make one out of cardboard!)
- Paint the paper mâché hat blue and add a red ribbon or red strip of paint. Allow to dry thoroughly and glue onto the headband.
- To wear the costume, be sure to pop the collar on the white shirt and add the yellow scarf under the collar as a cravat. Then layer the buttoned cardigan and tuck it all into the pants. Add the jacket and the pin to finish.

How to Make a Geppetto Costume
Materials
- work apron
- cardigan
- button shirt
- dark pants
- gray socks
- loafers
- yellow felt
- scissors
- glue dots
- Start by making faux buckles for Geppetto’s shoes. Cut buckle shapes out of the yellow felt and set aside.
- Put on the rest of the outfit (be sure to fold the pants up to mid-calf for a period look). Then add the buckles to the shoes using glue dots.

How to Make a Blue Fairy Costume
Materials
- blue shirt
- blue tulle skirt
- fairy wings
- blue headband
- wood skewer
- blue cardstock
- blue glitter
- scissors
- glue gun
- Make the wand by cutting two stars from blue cardstock. Glue them together and sandwich the wood skewer. Add glitter to the outside of the stars.
- Put it all on! Bonus points if you have glittery blue makeup.
