Party Favor Idea: Custom Sprinkle Mix

| | | | | |

Not gonna lie, the part of Henry’s tonsils party that I was most excited about was the party favor idea: custom sprinkle mix! I had been wanting to put together some custom sprinkles for a few months and was waiting for just the right time. And a party that ended with ice cream was the perfect time to do it!

I love the custom sprinkle mix for party favors for so many reasons. It’s something that kids can help with on so many levels, you can customize it to the theme or colors of your party, and it’s something that families will be able to use for a long time after the party is over! So many party favors just get chucked in the trash once they get home. But I’m hoping these will bring lots of joy to Henry’s friends in the future as they decorate cookies or sprinkle them on ice cream. Here’s how we made ours!

Make Time: 1 Hour

The fun part of this project comes at the very beginning, when you get to pick out all of your sprinkles. Find your inspiration, whatever it may be — it could be a color palette, or the theme of your party, or a holiday. Anything! Then head to the cake decorating aisle of the nearest store. We had good luck at Michaels and a local baking store. Once you’re in the aisle with all the sprinkles, go crazy! Use your inspiration to pull various colors, shapes, and sizes of sprinkles.

I like to start with a base of a couple of colors of classic jimmies. From there, try to add some larger pieces — Sixlets or larger candy pearls are great for this. Then grab some different shapes. We found little pineapples that Henry snagged immediately, along with gold stars and some tiny gold discs he called “pennies.” As you’re choosing your mix, keep looking at all the pieces together to make sure that they feel cohesive and fun. Go a little crazy!

Once you’ve got all of your selections, empty them into a large bowl. If you’re unsure about quantity, don’t dump an entire package of sprinkles in right away. Add little by little so that you don’t get too much of any one thing. You can always add more of a certain shape or color but you can’t really take it away (unless you have all night to sit and pick out teeny yellow pineapples from a bowl of sprinkles…). Shuffle the sprinkles around the bowl until they’re well mixed.

Add your sprinkles to individual jars. If you’d like to use our Champion Sprinkle Mix label, download it right here and print onto label sheets. Then just cut around the edges and stick the labels to the fronts of the jars. Although they look just as cute without labels too!

These were a total hit at the party! We sent a jar home with each kid and also left a small dish of loose sprinkles for the kids to use on their ice cream and it was super fun. They were all so careful not to spill! We found a tiny plastic scoop to serve them, and they were displayed in a bowl from this set.
