Easy Valentine Craft // Clay Heart Pins with a Printable Card
This easy Valentine craft is so fun! Print our free Valentine card, and make DIY clay pins to give to your pals.

Sometimes I like to share Valentine’s Day ideas that are candy-free, because truth be told the bag of candy that my kids come home with from school on Valentine’s Day is almost as big as on Halloween.
There’s just so. much. sugar.
Now listen, I’m a candy gal through and through. But the madness has to stop somewhere so I love this easy Valentine craft!

More to Love about This Easy Valentine Craft
So for Maggie’s pre-school class, we gave these DIY clay heart pin Valentines. They’re super cute and they come with a free download so you can make them too.
They’re easy and fun to make, and a perfect project to do with kids. The clay is very kid-friendly, and there are lots of different parts of the DIY that even toddlers could help with.
Customize your heart pins by letting your kids draw faces on them, or even write messages like little conversation hearts.
There are so many fun ways to mix up this easy Valentine craft!
DIY Clay Heart Pin Valentines
This project is kind of two-fold; there’s the making of the clay heart pins and then actually printing the Valentines and attaching the pins. But the cool thing is that instead of giving candy, you’re giving a little handmade accessory!
We’re gave these at preschool but I think they’re actually adorable for all ages — high school, Galentines, whatever. I wore one on my lapel last year during Valentine season.
They’re also totally customizable; you could use a different shape of cookie cutter, or let your kids paint them, or even add some glitter if you’re a fan of sparkle. You really can’t go wrong.
So let’s make some!

Instructions to Make the Heart Pins
- Start by downloading and printing the Valentine card on your white cardstock (you can download the file for free at the end of this post!). Cut along the trim lines.
- Punch holes and create a slit on the card as marked. This will be where you add the heart pin.
- Next start working on your hearts! Choose a few colors of clay (or you can make them white and paint them!). Roll out the clay to 1/4″ thick, on the mat.
- Punch hearts in the clay and remove the excess. Kids can definitely help with this part!
- Pre-heat your oven to 275. Place the mat onto your baking sheet. Once the oven reaches temperature, bake the hearts for 15 minutes (add a minute or two if your oven runs low).
- Remove and let cool. Once completely cool, use a Sharpie to draw on little faces.
- Add a dot of glue to the back of each heart and glue a pin back on. This is another part that’s great for kids to help with!
- Let the glue dry completely. Once dry, attach the pin to the cards.
