DIY XOXO Throw Blanket

While we’re getting used to being parents, I’ve invited a few of my darling blog pals to stop by and share a post or two with you! I’m so grateful for the awesome folks who have been helping out, and today we get to hear from Ashley of Sugar & Cloth. Here she is!

Since we’re celebrating Little Foy as the newest addition to the DIY dream team that is Lovely Indeed, I, Ashley, figured it would be fitting to make sure he’s welcomed and warmed with this DIY xoxo blanket… that or anyone who needs a quick nap will be prepared in style, too.

Materials

• All purpose, non-toxic craft paints in colors of your choice
• A paint brush for each color
• Painter’s tape
• Muslin blanket

Instructions

First, be sure to wash and dry the blanket before painting so that if any shrinking occurs, it doesn’t effect the design. Next, lay the blanket flat and tape down the edges with painter’s tape. If the blanket is wrinkled, you may want to iron it for better results.

Once it’s taped down, alternate each color to make x’s and o’s sporadically throughout the blanket. Be sure to not use too much paint on the brush so that the fabric doesn’t become stiff when it dries. By using a light coat of paint, the fabric will still have some movement, and will become softer after it’s washed again while still keeping it’s color.

This little blankie would make a perfect gift for a new baby, or for any grownup who just likes to snuggle. (Which, let’s be real, is most everybody). xoxo
