I always forget how much I love Valentine’s Day! Not in a cheesy teddy-bear-and-chocolates kind of way, but in a fun I-love-love kind of way. I wanted to make a teeny tiny something for my Valentine’s, even though we’re knee-deep in babyland over here, so obviously a disco ball heart with chocolates inside was the way to go. Because everything looks better when it’s covered in disco mirrors, right?!
Materials
- papier mache heart boxes
- small mirror tiles
- wire cutters or mosaic tile cutters
- strong glue
Make Time: 1 Hour
Before we start, how happy does this little organizer box make my Type A heart?! I love organized things. I had all of these rhinestones and mirror tiles and sparkly things spread all over my supply closet and now they’re in one happy spot. If you need a little organization help for your piles of stuff like I do, Michaels has some pretty sweet tools to help with that. My little workspace is reaping the benefits of all that organizing!
So! Start by cutting your mirror tiles (unless you want ’em big!). I cut mine into quarters so I could cover the box in more detail. When you’re cutting be careful that the pieces don’t fly everywhere. I kept my other hand over the wire cutters to trap the pieces that I was cutting apart.
Next, spread a thick layer of glue on the lid of your box. Lay the tiles down one by one, covering as much surface area as possible.
Once you’ve got the lid covered, put the lid back on the box to see where you’ll need to start the first row of tiles on the bottom portion. Repeat the process on the bottom of the box until everything is covered.
Fill that disco heart up with Valentiney things and give it to someone who deserves it! Full disclosure: the chocolates in these photos did not make it for very long. I’ll have to buy some new ones for my Valentines because these happened to find their way into my mouth. Whoopsie. Hashtag worth it. xoxo

This is such a cute and simple idea! I am definitely doing this for my friends this year, also gorgeous photography!

I saw a tip on Food & Wine magazine’s website. You can shape your own chocolates if you fill a baking sheet with brown sugar, then put a layer of plastic wrap over it. Use different items to create an impression in the sugar (i.e. a square salt shaker, or here, perhaps a heart-shaped stamp) and fill the impression with your liquid chocolate mix. Let it set in the fridge, and you can fill this dandy box with V Day-themed chocolates that you made yourself!
Brilliant! Have GOT to try that.
Very happy to see a Raskog cart in your craft area. I mean…if you didn’t have one, I have to seriously re-evaluate our relationship.

These are really super stinkin’ cute!
Thanks doll! I’m thinking I’ll have to start adding disco mirrors to everything I own now. 😉
These really turned out awesome.
