Which Machines are Right For You?

If you’re not familiar with them, Cricut machines might feel overwhelming at first. Which one is right for you? Do you need more than one to accomplish your crafting goals?

We have some deep dives that are a perfect primer course to answer all of these questions and more.

And now that there are other fun machines in the mix like the Mug Press and Hat Press, it’s important to weigh the benefits of each machine.

In my opinion, if you’re a serious crafter or have a shop where you sell handmade items, the Mug Press and Hat Press are invaluable tools that will help take your inventory to the next level.

If you enjoy making handmade gifts, I think you’ll also get an incredible amount of use out of both of these awesome tools.

Supplies You’ll Need to Make Custom Coffee Mugs

So! Let’s talk about these colorful custom coffee mugs! I love how vibrant the Infusible Ink color is, and the way that it seamlessly integrates with the coffee mug surface. It’s not a vinyl that sets on top; instead, the color infuses itself into the material. Amazing!

How to Use a Cricut Explore and Mug Press to Make Custom Mugs

  1. Design your mug in Cricut Design Space. To access the free mug design template, select Upload, then sort the Project Type to the mug designs. Once you have the template you like, you can add shapes or lettering on top of it, attach it all, and it will cut like ours did here.
  2. Place the Infusible Ink sheet on a cutting mat so that the color is face up. Be sure before you cut to mirror your image and select the custom setting to cut for Infusible Ink.
  3. Cut your design!
  4. After cutting, weed your design to remove the pieces that you don’t want to transfer.
  5. Wrap the Infusible Ink sheet tightly around the mug and heat up your Mug Press, lifting the lever on the side.
  6. Once the Mug Press is hot, the power light will turn green. Insert your mug into the press, ensuring that the heating element is completely covering the Infusible Ink sheet. Press the lever downward to secure the mug and the transfer will begin.
  7. Once the press is completed, all the lights will be lit and the machine will beep. Lift the lever, remove the mug by holding the handle, and place the mug on a heatproof surface to cool.
  8. Once cool, gently peel away the Infusible Ink sheet to reveal your new custom coffee mug!
