At first I was going to call this costume “Lady of the Canyon,” after Joni Mitchell’s album. Ya know, all the cool hippie girls who hung out in Laurel Canyon in the 1960’s, being barefoot and writing music and making macrame plant hangers. But I figured that would be a little obscure. So this one’s a straight-up folk singer (or hippie if you don’t have a guitar!). It’s somewhere between Joni and Janis, and I have to say that I think it’s even better if you have a baby belly. There’s something pretty folksy about a pregnant tummy, amiright?
Anyway! If you want to be a folk singer this halloween, you just need a couple of basics from your closet: a long, flowy dress and something flowy or fringey to layer on top of it. Then, accessorize with every ring, bracelet, and necklace you’ve got. Top it off with a hippie headband and some round sunglasses. And if you play the guitar, by all means carry one around! Everybody loves a Halloween costume that comes with a performance… don’t they?
We’ve had such a blast putting together the Costumes from Your Closet series — and we didn’t spend a penny on any of the four looks! Be sure to go back and check out the other costumes if you are still looking for ideas. Have fun, gang! xoxo
HAHAHA you’ve even got the poses down! Soooo funny!
