How to Make Spiked Jello Stars for a Fourth of July Party!

Maybe it’s just my pregnant prohibition phase, but all I can think of are the fun cocktails that I want to try after this little nugget is born! Even though I’m abstaining these days, it’s not stopping us from hosting a shindig here and there so I decided to test out a recipe for the Fourth of July — booze-spiked Jello stars! It’s like the Jello jigglers of our youth but with a grownup twist. They’re quick and simple to make if you’ve got the right molds and you can make a whole bunch of them at a time. And if your party is more kid-friendly, leave out the alcohol and they work just as well! xoxo

Materials

  • silicone star mold
  • Jello packages in red and blue (6 oz packages)
  • cooking spray
  • water
  • alcohol (vodka or clear rum work well)
  • measuring cups
  • pot

Make Time: 15 Minutes Prep; 2-3 Hours Chilling Time

Step 1: Boil 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup of your choice of alcohol (if you want to make them non-alcoholic just boil 1 cup of plain water). Once boiling, remove from heat and add in a 6 oz package of Jello.

Step 2: Stir for 2-3 minutes or until the powder is completely dissolved.

Step 3: Spray the interior of the molds lightly with cooking spray.

Step 4: Transfer liquid to a measuring cup or similar vessel with a pour spout and carefully fill your star molds with the liquid. One 6 oz package of Jello made approximately 22-24 stars for us; it helps a ton to have multiple molds if you want to make big batches.

Step 5: Place molds in the refrigerator, checking for firmness after 2-3 hours. Once chilled, remove and set out for guests to enjoy! These will keep overnight as well if you’d like to make them ahead of time.
