A Modern July 4th Table

This will be the very first July 4th that we’ll be in our own house, with our own actual backyard where we can celebrate! We’re having some of our best pals come in from out of town to visit and I wanted to put together something special for a fun outdoor meal. But rather than go the typical red-white-and-blue explosion that usually goes along with the 4th of July, I thought it would be cool to do a modern take on a patriotic tablescape. So I browsed around on AllModern and picked up a few things that are turning out to be some of my new favorite pieces for backyard entertaining!

We stuck with navy, white, and a few metallic touches for the whole shebang. I did a quick DIY treatment on some simple flatware (tutorial is on the way soon!), and used my favorite DIY gold leaf succulents (from a couple posts back) instead of florals. I also thought it would be cool to have a little bit of a geometric theme, so the square pedestal and square dish sets were perfect. I’m loving those little Pantone dish sets! They’re almost like bento boxes that you can mix and match.

The white garden stools are around for extra seating or for overflow of dishes and glasses. Like a really cute little mini bar! And best of all — that big beautiful table. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been pining for a backyard dining table. You know the opening sequence from Parenthood? That’s what I’m talking about, y’all. Dinners in the backyard with candles and plates getting passed back and forth and bottles of wine and lots of ridiculous laughing. That’s my plan for this beaut of a table.

So what are you up to this Independence Day? Do you do a sit-down dinner, or do you roll more laid-back style? Check out our picks for your July 4th celebrations down below! xoxo
