This is one of those recipes that’s perfect for making and sharing around the holidays! If you need something sweet and easy to give to neighbors, teachers, and family friends, this is it. This spiced almond crunch recipe for the holidays is so easy to put together, and you can totally substitute any nuts that you like. It’s a recipe of my Grammie’s (see more family recipes here!), and she used to do it with walnuts. I think it would also be great with pecans, but I had almonds on hand so that’s what we used. And it’s delicious!
- 2 cups coarsely chopped nuts
- 1 Tbsp + 2 Tbsp butter
- 1 egg white
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
Step 1: Heat oven to 325. Spread 2 cups coarsely chopped nuts in a 9×13″ pan. Dot with 1 Tbsp butter. Bake 10 minutes to lightly toast nuts, stirring frequently.
Step 2: Remove from oven and place nuts in a separate dish to cool. In the same pan, melt 2 Tbsp butter in the oven while prepping Step 3.
Step 3: Beat one egg white until soft peaks form. Fold in sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Combine nuts and gently mix.
Step 4: Spread nut mixture over melted butter in pan and bake for 25 minutes.
Step 5: Remove from oven and let cool. Break into pieces and serve. Ours was still pretty fresh a week later, after being stored in an airtight container.
It’s. So. Good. It tastes like the holidays! It would be perfect to package up in little individual bags as gifts (with pretty holiday ribbons tied on, no?), or to serve on a pretty platter at a holiday party. My mom also said that it would be a perfect crumbly topping for pie and ice cream, and I happen to agree. Happy holiday baking! xoxo
