My Summer Beauty Routine (And a New Game Changer!)

My summer beauty routine

Summer’s on the way and I am SO excited about it! I love summer — the sun, the heat, the swimming, the beaches, all of it. And along with all that comes a little adjustment in my beauty routine, to accommodate for all those hot days. We’ve got a few beach days coming and I’ve been slowly adding some new ideas into my summer beauty routine, to make sure that I’m prepped, fresh, and ready to jump into summer with both feet. And this year I actually found a few product that has, so far, been a game changer. Read on for all of the ways that I switch it up to get ready for the heat!

Ditch the Dryer

During the winter months, I blow dry and use heat tools to try to coax my hair into submission. But during the summer, I totally recommend a good old fashioned air dry! It gives your hair a break to recover from all of the heat damage, and it lets you embrace your natural texture, whether it’s curly, wavy, or in-between (like mine). I like to blot it dry with a towel, add some smoothing product, and let the air do its thing.

Wax On, Wax Off

Here it is, guys. My game-changer! I’ve never waxed my legs before but I. am. SOLD! And even better, I found an at-home wax kit that is super easy to use. Parissa has a kit that makes waxing legs at home a total breeze, and I mean that seriously. I literally did mine while Ryan and I were watching tv one night. Ha!

Waxing legs at home

Part of what I love about the Parissa wax is that it all comes from natural (certified organic!) and sustainable sources, and I’ve been trying to slowly move my routine to all-natural products. I also love that it’s a family-owned company who really aims for a low impact on the world’s resources. That’s huge. And the wax strips I used were great — you just warm them in your hands, separate the strips, press them on your legs, and zip them right off! The kit contains azulene oil, which you can apply afterward to avoid inflammation or ingrown hairs.

Waxing legs at home

You guys. Since waxing, I haven’t shaved my legs in almost two weeks. TWO WEEKS! And they’re still smooth and soft. It’s so perfect if you have a vacation planned and you don’t want to worry about shaving. Or if shaving irritates your skin like it does mine sometimes.

Lighten Up

Another thing I’ve been doing as the weather is heating up is to lighten up my usual products. The heavy creams and oils take a backseat to lighter formulas, especially for moisturizers and makeup. I find that it really helps control oil production and shine, and just feels a little more fresh for the hot days!

SPF Always

It’s not necessarily specific to summer, but when the warmer and sunnier months roll around, I always redouble my efforts to stay protected from the sun! Carry your SPF with you to reapply throughout the day, especially if you’re active. And don’t forget places that often get overlooked, like lips, scalp, and feet.

Tread Lightly

And speaking of feet, summer is when mine take the hardest beating! With all the sandals, and beaches, and barefoot living, they can really suffer some wear and tear. So I like to keep a foot scrub in the shower and use it once a week or so, and moisturize daily to keep those tootsies soft and pretty.

I’d love to know your summer beauty routine switch-ups! Do we have any similar ones? And have you ever tried at-home waxing? I’d love to know if you have, and what your experience was like. Leave a comment and let us know! xoxo
