I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t get behind the usual Halloween color palette. The orange and black thing doesn’t do it for me, and if you throw purple in there I’m even less impressed. Ha! But let’s talk about a super-cool, black and white color palette for Halloween! Now that I can get behind.
We got the chance to team up with Etsy and ShopStyle this year to get our house decked out for Halloween, and I jumped at the chance to scour some of my favorite shops and makers for one-of-a-kind pieces that would fit in our black and white Halloween palette. And I found some absolute gems. So we’re showing you how we’re getting our black & white on in three different areas of our home — the front porch, the dining table, and my favorite rolling cart.
The Front Porch
I just love having a porch decked out for fall and Halloween. When I decided on a black and white theme this year I didn’t realize how rad it would look with our yellow door! I thought macrame might be a cool alternative to a wreath, so I snagged this one from Magnolia Park on Etsy. It’s a perfect combo with the Hello Fall doormat from Sassy Sisterz Design, and I love how they look with a whole mess of black and white pumpkins. One thing I’ve always loved about Etsy is that you can find unique, handmade things, and you know you’re supporting another creative or maker while you shop.
Speaking of supporting makers, that pumpkin with the hand-lettered Hocus Pocus quote is from an Etsy shop of a maker who’s local to me — Tiffany of Paper Lane Design. Her hand lettering is just so incredible, and she made us these custom pumpkins (but she can pretty much letter on anything). It goes perfectly with the buffalo check fabric from Fabric Supply Co., which I made into a pillow cover using our tutorial right here.
The Dining Table
I love Etsy not just for the handmade pieces, but also for the craft supplies! I found these little felt balls in Adkins Supply Co.‘s shop and strung them together using an embroidery needle and thread into cute little garlands. So easy! I cut some more of the buffalo check fabric into a table runner and added the garlands over the top, along with my fave little white pumpkins. I’m pretty sure when it comes to tiny pumpkins, more is more.
Another hand lettered pumpkin is the centerpiece, and boom! Instant fall decor.
The Rolling Cart
You could do this on a bar cart, a mantle or just for a good old fashioned shelfie! But here’s a great place to feature some of the art from Etsy that you can’t find anywhere else. I think my favorite piece is the moon phase embroidery, from Foxtails and Lace. She’s another local maker and her embroidery is insane! I love her fresh, modern style. I thought it looked really cool next to the palmistry print from Made Au Gold (a new favorite shop – be sure to check it out!). They’re both a fun nod to Halloween without being cheesy.
We filled out the rest of the cart with pumpkins in our color palette and some yellow billy balls to accentuate the yellow in our palette. Another garland of the felt balls looked cute hanging out on one of the cart handles. And we gathered a few black and white books we had around the house to finish it off.
Do you have any favorite Etsy shops? Leave them for us in the comments so we can all find some new faves! I love hunting around for new makers or pieces that I’ve never seen before, especially around a holiday. And speaking of which, how do you like to decorate for Halloween?! Think you’ll try out our black and white palette? xoxo
