We love to do the family costume thing around here with the kids, but lo and behold, we’re actually invited to a couple of grownup Halloween celebrations this year! So we’ll be leaving the kids behind and going back to our couples costume days. We used to be pretty professional at costume parties, and always prided ourselves on being able to use what was in our closets to put together a fun look. So this couples greaser costume was right up our alley!

Before we get to that, though, let’s talk about getting around on Halloween! How do you manage, if you’re headed out to a party? I was recently hanging out with a girlfriend who told me that one of her New Years resolutions at the beginning of this year was to take an Uber every time she went out for drinks, parties, or similar celebrations. And I thought it was a pretty awesome idea. It’s the perfect way to go out on the town without worrying about carrying keys, designated drivers, and more. And on top of that, I think it’s a cool way to demonstrate to our kids that you need to be responsible for your safety when you’re out being social. So we’re taking a page out of my friends’ book and getting to all of our Halloween celebrations by Uber this year! (Not to mention the costumes usually start a lively conversation with your Uber driver-partner. 😉 )

I’m also loving these greaser costumes because they’re super easy to run around in. You can hop in and out of the car really easily, and there aren’t any huge parts or uncomfortable costume pieces if you’re headed to a party. (Although if you’re taking an Uber and your costume is massive, you can just request an UberXL when you go into the app to request a ride!) I think that’s partly why I’ve always loved costumes that come from pieces you already have — if you’re just wearing clothing from a different style or time period, it’s easy and comfortable to mix, mingle, dance, and have a great time. So let’s break down the looks!

Female Greaser Costume

  • high-waisted pants or jeans
  • off the shoulder top, crop top, or button up top tied at the waist
  • cardigan for layering
  • scarf for hair
  • peep-toe heels
  • red lips

The hair and makeup are what really top off this look! For the hair, create an updated “victory roll” at the front of your hairline. Curl the hair at your hairline into a ringlet using a 1″ curling iron. Let it cool and tease the base a bit for volume. Wrap the curl in on itself and secure it by inserting bobby pins at the base of the curl. Tie a scarf around your hair, just behind the victory roll. With the back of your hair, you can let it hang down in curls, or put it up into a sleek ponytail. Add some accentuated eyebrows, a red lip, and black eyeliner to finish it off.

Male Greaser Costume

  • white t-shirt
  • cuffed jeans
  • white socks
  • flat sneakers

It doesn’t get any easier than this! The greaser look is so iconic you can’t go wrong. And if you have a guy who’s shy of wearing a costume, this is pretty low-key. If your dude has a black leather motorcycle jacket, even better! Have him toss that on too. Slick his hair back for the greased-up wet look and you two are ready to roll.

Once you’re all dressed up you can use the Pickup Messages feature on Uber to help your driver find you safely and easily when you’re getting picked up. When you’re requesting a ride, you can send your driver a quick message like, ” Look for the couple in the Greasers costumes,” so they know what to look out for. We took our costumes downtown in an Uber the other day and had some fun in front of one of our local murals! It was the perfect spot to test out our costumes and make sure they’re on point for the party we have coming up. I almost brought along a milkshake with two straws but I thought that might be a bit much… 😉 Are you headed to any Halloween parties this year? Leave a comment and let me know what you’re dressing up as! And if you’re planning on hitting the town, grab an Uber to get you there and back safely. xoxo
