This is another one of those times when I got a bug to celebrate a holiday at the very last minute. So last minute, in fact, that I didn’t even have time to share it before Valentine’s Day last year — which is when these photos are from!

So I figured I’d save the idea and the photos and share them this year. And now I’m just in a puddle because even though it was only a year ago, the babies look so little!

They’re just giant kids now which is totally breaking my heart. But I digress. Here’s how to have a Valentine’s Day breakfast celebration with XO pancakes!

Psst — be sure to check out these other Valentine ideas that I think you’ll love!

A Valentine Backdrop

To make our backdrop, I pretty much just ran around the house and collected anything I had that was red, pink, or gold! See below for a list of what I pulled together.

  1. To put it all together, first lean the pegboard against a wall. We sandwiched ours between the table and wall so that it was secure.
  2. Next, add the “love” balloons to the center of the pegboard using Glue Dots.
  3. Then just add your extra balloons, honeycombs, and tassels, attaching them with either Glue Dots or the wire. If you use the wire, just attach it to a piece of decor, string it through a couple of holes on the pegboard, and then twist it together in the back.

Set the Valentine’s day Table

The kids loved the simple table we set, and the best part was that it was paper plates so there were no dishes to do! See below for a list of the paper products we used.

You certainly don’t have to use all of the items we used, but just grab anything you’ve got! I stuffed the heart boxes with a few small Valentine treats from the Target dollar aisle and the kids had the most fun opening them up.

XO Pancakes for Breakfast on Valentine’s DAy

For the Valentine’s Day breakfast pancakes, you’ll need your favorite pancake mix (or a scratch recipe), a griddle or pan, and these condiment bottles.

  1. Start by heating up the griddle. Create your pancake batter and fill a condiment bottle with the batter. You’ll need to be sure that it’s super smooth, with no lumps.
  2. Once the griddle is heated, use the condiment bottle to write your Xs and Os on the griddle. You may have to get the feel for how the batter comes out to get the right width — too thick and the letters will bleed together, too thin and they may fall apart. So experiment a little.
  3. These cook pretty quickly, so be ready to flip them and then get them off of the griddle shortly thereafter.

Celebrate

That’s it! It’s so easy to put together — I literally put tossed it together the night before Valentine’s Day last year.

And now I think we might have a tradition on our hands; Henry already asked if we get to have a special Valentine’s Day breakfast again. Good thing I’m into holidays! xoxo
