This is one of those games that I love having out on a coffee table or a side table for people to just pick up and play a quick round.

We’ve had one of these at our family cabin forever and I thought it would be fun to have one in our own home, so we can teach our kids one day!

This DIY two-player Chinese checkers game is another woodworking project that will help you get comfortable with your drill skills — it’s a perfect first woodworking project.

Add a few of your favorite colors with craft paint and it’s a game and a cool piece of decor.

How to Make a DIY Two Player Chinese Checkers Game

Make Time: 1 Hour (Plus Drying Time)

DIY Two Person Chinese Checkers Game
  1. Map out the holes in your board. You should have 7 diagonal rows of 7 holes each, creating a diamond shape. It’s easiest to start with a single hole in the center and work your way out from there.
  2. Use the drill to drill a hole on each spot you marked. Only drill halfway through the board.
  3. Choose two paint colors; one for each team. Dip a copper coupling into the paint, just about 1/4″ below the surface. Remove from paint and set down to dry, paint side down. Repeat this until you have 10 couplings in one color and 10 in another.
  4. Once the excess paint has dripped off the coupling, flip them paint-side-up to dry the rest of the way.
  5. Paint and decorate the board however you like! We painted a diagonal half one color, then masked the board and painted a darker color on the other half.

  1. The last time I played Chinese checker was when I was in 10th Grade, lol! This is the bomb! Thanks for sharing this DIY idea and looking forward to making mine. 🙂

  2. Hey everyone, I like the idea of homemade games because sometimes simple mechanics can turn into something really fun if the concept is creative enough. Recently I was reading about interactive wheel-based games and found an interesting breakdown on https://africanizeit.com/ where they explain how Evolution’s Ice Fishing works with its 53-segment money wheel and themed fishing bonus rounds with multipliers. What I found cool is that the game doesn’t rely on classic reels but instead builds excitement through the wheel and a live host guiding the round. It actually made me think that even a homemade game using a wheel concept and small challenges could feel surprisingly engaging.

  3. I like the idea of a DIY two-player Chinese Checkers game. Simple board games often bring the best moments because the rules are clear and the focus is on small decisions and luck. That mix of logic and chance reminds me of why many people also enjoy casual gambling-style entertainment just for fun. Sometimes I browse sweepstakes platforms like Sweep Stars , since they offer a similar light feeling of uncertainty during short breaks. In the end, games that combine strategy with a bit of chance always stay interesting.

  4. This DIY Chinese Checkers game looks fantastic! It reminds me of quordle in that it’s all about strategy and thinking ahead. Both games are great for sharpening your mind while having fun!
