I had an itch recently to put together a quick little project for the tiny dude’s nursery — I wanted something fun to hang on his crib that wouldn’t get in the way or be a danger. I came across this chambray denim paint and was totally curious! He has a chambray crib skirt so I was like, “Let’s party, denim paint.” And this little banner was born.
Materials
- denim paint (keep reading for sources!)
- plain canvas fabric
- letter stickers
- paintbrush
- painters tape
- wooden dowel
- glue gun
- baker’s twine
- scissors
Make Time: 1 Hour (Plus Drying Time)
Head to Michaels and pick up all your supplies! Right now they have a new section called Make Market with tons of fun supplies — that’s where you can find the denim paint. Start by cutting a banner shape from your canvas.
Next, apply letter stickers to spell out something fun! I tried to find a phrase that was sweet enough for little guy’s room but still had a little bit of attitude… Because duh. Tape a square around your words with painter’s tape.
Next, fill in the square with the denim paint. Be careful that your letters are firmly adhered to the canvas so that no paint seeps underneath.
Peel away the stickers and the tape. If you find that your fabric has puckered around the paint, give it a quick pass with a hot iron on the unpainted side.
Fold the top of the banner over on itself and secure with a line of hot glue. Be sure to leave a hole large enough to fit your wooden dowel.
Insert the dowel and tie the baker’s twine to either end. Hang it and love it! I’m kind of newly obsessed with the idea of denim paint, especially in this chambray shade. I’m off to paint everything that’s not nailed down!
Happy Monday, lovelies. xoxo
