After our colorful barn door added such a punch to the studio I wanted to keep the color party going! In the studio, I like to add touches that are low-commitment and removable, because we’re always moving things around in there for photoshoots. So adhesive vinyl was the perfect material! We have our DIY IKEA hack desks that have been so tried and true, and they deserved a little upgrade. So we created these DIY no-paint colorful drawers to dress them up a little!
Materials
- flat-front drawers
- adhesive vinyl
- measuring tape
- ruler and scissors or paper cutter
- pen
Make Time: 20 Minutes
Step 1: Measure your drawer fronts.
Step 2: If you’re using a ruler and scissors, mark the size that you need on your vinyl and cut. If you’re using a paper cutter, just measure using the grid ruler on the actual cutter. If you can get your hands on a cutter, it makes this particular project way easer! (It’s also, by the way, one of my most-used craft supplies. Maybe just invest in one.)
Step 3: Peel away the top edge of your vinyl and line it up on the top edge of your first drawer. Pull away the backing as you smooth it down. If you end up with bubbles, use something firm like a credit card to smooth the bubbles out toward the edges.
Step 4: Repeat with all your drawers!
I was totally afraid this was going to be a tough, long project but it ended up being one of those that comes together quickly and easily! So if you’re looking for a fun refresh give it a shot. It’s perfect for dorm rooms, kid rooms, kitchens (you can just wipe the vinyl clean!) and more. What colors would you use?! xoxo
Such a fun, quick and easy update! Now to see what kind of flat surfaces I have around my house to try it!
Be sure to share photos with us if you try it out!
Yes!! So fun, love this refresh 🙂
Thanks Tanya!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. This is precious. SO CUTE. Such a great idea.
It looks like your drawers are at or below 12″ wide. I’m wondering if/where to find vinyl rolls that are wider. I’m thinking of trying this on some cabinet doors for a kids room and they are maybe 18-20″ wide. I don’t want to use multiple sheets of course, so trying to find a solution and finding nothing larger than 12″ wide.
