More office supply DIY fun for our grownup version of back-to-school! I love using clipboards to display a rotating selection of art on my walls at home. But sometimes those ol’ clipboards are just kinda… dull. There, I said it. No offense, clipboards. So the paints came out and my old friend gold leaf made an appearance and BOOM my clipboards are fancier than I am. I love the color this little project adds to a wall, and with a piece of art on one of these babies the gold leaf peeks out from underneath juuuuust the right amount.
Materials
- plain clipboard
- washi tape
- craft paint
- paintbrushes
- gold leaf sheets
- gold leaf adhesive
- gold leaf duster brush
Make Time: 30 Minutes
Step 1: Tape off a diagonal line with washi tape. Paint the bottom portion of the clipboard. Remove the washi.
Step 2: Learned this one the hard way: allow that paint to dry and cure completely, or your gold leaf will stick to tacky paint and make a mess!
Step 3: Paint short brushstrokes of gold leaf adhesive over the painted area. Make sure the adhesive is just a thin layer, and don’t allow it to pool.
Step 4: Once the adhesive has dried for a minute or two and is tacky to the touch, place a sheet of gold leaf face down over the brush strokes.
Step 5: Pull away the sheet and the gold leaf should stick to the areas with adhesive. Repeat the process until all the brushstrokes are covered.
Step 6: Use the duster brush to buff away all the excess gold leaf.
Load up your new clipboard with art and hang ’em on your walls! Or, if you’re extra fancy, just use these clipboards at work in your office and impress all of your colleagues. Think you’ll give these guys a try? What colors would you use? I had a heck of a time narrowing it down but I think they’d look awesome in a whole rainbow of colors! xoxo
Super cute, Chelsea. Love the pattern.
You’re so pretty and tan! But that’s not why I love you. I love for projects like this. 🙂

Absolutely love this idea of the freehand shapes for gold leaf! I have some gold leaf I purchased but haven’t done anything with yet. I think this will be the perfect project for my office. What is brand/color of pink paint that you used? It is such a soft shade of blush and is perfect to complement the pink chair I have in my office. Pinks are so hard to shop for sometimes… Thanks! Will definitely be checking out more of your projects. 🙂
Great post. You can’t go wrong with Gold. Love the outcome
