I have been freezing cold for what feels like months. No kidding, I feel like I haven’t been warm since October. It’s been a chilly winter, and our house has these old windows that you can feel the cold just seeping through. It’s been so wonderful to feel myself thaw out during our little trip over the last few days. Before we left, I decided I wanted to refresh a pair of sunglasses for our travels, to add a little color to the trip! These floral painted sunnies are perfect for spring and summer, and for all of your travels and adventures.
- plain pair of plastic sunglasses
- acrylic paint
- small paintbrushes
- acrylic paint sealer (Outdoor ModPodge works well)
Make Time: 30 Minutes (Plus Drying Time)
Step 1: Clean your glasses to make sure they’re free of dust and debris. Dry them thoroughly.
Step 2: Starting with green shades, paint a few free-form leaves scattered on both temples. Allow to dry, and add another layer in another shade of green for depth.
Step 3: Choose a bright shade and paint some ruffly floral shapes scattered around and overlapping the leaves. Start with one shade, allow it to dry, then go over with another shade.
Step 4: Using a thin brush and a contrasting but complementary color, paint some outlines to give the flowers definition.
Step 5: If you wish, finish your flowers by painting a few stamens to add an extra pop of color.
Step 6: Allow all paint to dry fully and seal with a layer of paint sealer. Allow this to dry and cure.
I’m loving these custom sunnies, and the fact that you can paint anything you like on them! They’ve been just the little bright pop I needed to start getting in the mood for spring and summer, and they’re just right to take along in your bag if you’re heading on a trip. And good news, gang — we’re partnering with Carnival Cruise Line to bring you a whole series of travel-inspired DIYs, so you can get ready to head out on your adventures in style! Stay tuned for what’s coming next — you’re gonna love it. xoxo
