When Jenny from Hank + Hunt posted this DIY on The Sweetest Occasion, I just about lost my mind (along with everyone else). Possibly one of the coolest ideas ever — and easy and cheap to boot! The ever-brilliant Jenny got some dollar store animal toys, plastic candle holders, a drill, and some gold spray paint and combined them to make the most awesome candle holders I’ve ever seen. So naturally, I decided to copy her and make them for Mr. Lovely’s birthday cake.
Wanna try it? Don’t be scared just because there’s a drill involved! It’s easy as can be, and took me all of about 20 minutes and four dollars.
For the full how-to, check out Jenny’s amazing post, and let’s give her a big hand for the inspiration! xoxo
I featured your candle holders over at Lemon Drop Life. Check it out!

I am dying over how genius this is. Think of all the colors you could do! Pinning this for future reference!
I’m going to try this….our daughter is turning 30 this week! I’m going to make her a hippo candle holder! And, then I’ll move onto the other kids favourite animals or anything really and do everyone in the family a special candle holder! Thanks for this awesome craft!
ok – I have to say this is amazing!
Love this! I picked up some vintage bird candle holders that I love, but my son is not going to go for the pink birds. These are fantastic.
Great job recreating these candle holders. When I saw Jenny’s DIY, I too almost died!!!! She’s stinkin brilliant…..!
Isn’t Jenny just the best?
LOVE! I am going to do this. Where did you get your plastic candle holders?
