You guys know our awesome illustrator Lindsey, right? Well girlfriend just got a crazy fun day job working for inmod, an online modern furniture company. And she noticed that when people would return purchases the returns would just sit in the warehouse, all sad and begging for some kind soul to take them home and show them some love. So when she sent over this (barely used!) chair and told me to go DIY wild, I about did backflips! I knew right away what I wanted to try and it turns out that you can restyle one of these little babies in about 15 hot minutes. Wanna do it?!

Materials

Make Time: 15 Minutes

Step 1: Cut a length of the vinyl tape, wide enough to span the top of the chair. Smooth the tape on to the top of the back of the chair, being sure it creates a level line.

Step 2: Use the X-Acto knife to slice off the ends of the tape, creating a line that follows the edge of the chair. If you press lightly, you’ll just cut the tape and not do any damage to the chair back.

Step 3: Repeat the process with a stripe of gold tape.

Step 4: Keep adding stripes until you reach the bottom. For the last stripe, you may need to trim your wide vinyl before sticking it on, as the curve of the chair may make it tricky to get it to lay flat. Trim as needed and smooth the tape down so that no bubbles remain underneath.

That’s it! I love this project for so many reasons — it hides any imperfections on the chair back, it adds a pop of color, and you can remove it all if you ever decide you’re over it. (Although I’m pretty sure I’m gonna love it this way for a good long while. This was such a fun one! Have you ever done a little shell chair makeover? I’d love to know what you tried! Leave a link in the comments and share. xoxo
