When we were pouring the cement slab for the new garage, the number one thing I was excited about was writing our names in it. I mean, a new garage is exciting and everything but give me a slab of wet cement and I am PUMPED. We were literally hovering over the cement guys as they were smoothing out, like, “Now is it time? What about now? How about now?” And finally it was time and we got to test our plan and it worked! The coolest way to write your name in cement EVER.
- wet-ish cement
- mini alphabet cookie cutters
Make Time: 5 Minutes
This one is totally simple! Just plan what you want to say and get your cookie cutters ready. Line up as many as you can by placing them gently on the cement. The cement should be mostly dry. If you have repeat letters, leave a blank space and move the repeat letter to the new space as you finish with it. Once you have your letters spaced the way you like them, gently tap the first letter on all sides with a hammer to sink the cookie cutter into the cement. The letter only needs to sink in about 1/4″ or so. Gently remove by pulling them directly upward. Repeat with all of your letters or numbers and that’s it!
Cool, right? And it’s totally clean and clear, so you don’t have to tear up your cement by dragging a stick across it or something. Hey, how about that glamorous hammer, huh? That old girl has seen a thing or two in her day. Also — I just love that picture of Ryan. He was so stoked and it was just such a good day full of possibilities and excitement. Not to get too deep in a post about cement, but the fact that he gets genuinely jazzed about stuff like this is why I married the guy. And that smile. Duh.
So there you go! Our little fam, engraved forever in a slab of cement. What would you write? xoxo
