DIY Pom Pom Shirt-1-7

DIY pom pom shirt

Our girl Kara has me dying over today’s DIY! Pom pom lovers, brace yourselves…

Am I the only one obsessed with pom poms right now? I seriously can’t get enough of them! They are so fun, playful, and perfect for summer. After making  pom pom earrings and a clutch, the next logical step was to make a DIY pom pom shirt! I was inspired by this pom pom shirt that is going for $68, but this version costs less than $10 and is just as cute. Plus, by making your own, you are able to customize the colors so it’s just your style!

Materials:

  • Cotton t-shirt
  • Craft pom poms
  • Needle and thread
  • Chalk
  • Scissors

Make Time: 1 HourDIY-Pom-Pom-Shirt
Step 1: Lay out your shirt flat and arrange your pom poms on the shirt. I found that spacing them out and grouping them in color columns looked the best.

Step 2: Move each pom pom aside and mark a small dot with the chalk. This helps you find each spot during the sewing process.

Step 3: Use your needle and thread to stitch on each pom pom. You will want to make sure that you needle goes through the center of the pom pom so that it is held secure during wearing and washing. I made three passes through the pom pom and shirt for each one and then tied it off on the inside.

Step 4: Once you have sewn on all the pom poms, you shirt is ready to wear. For washing, turn the shirt inside out and then dry flat or on low heat.

I am pretty sure this DIY pom pom shirt will be my go to summer outfit this year. I may even make a few more in different color schemes and pom pom placements. You can even use teeny tiny pom poms if large ones like these are too out there for you! Imagine a version with a white shirt and tiny white pom poms. Still cute but much more subdued. Have fun, pom pom lovers! xoxo
