My Skin Care Routine and Products

Skin care routine and products

I promise, this was never a post that occurred to me to write until about three people recently commented that my skin was looking good. Mind you, I’ve never been the girl who had people tell her she had good skin. I’ve dealt with breakouts for pretty much my whole life, along with oily/dry combo skin and a myriad of other issues. But! Because I finally feel like I found a combination of products that’s working well, I thought I’d share my skin care routine and products here for ya.

A little backstory for you. I literally never realized that I could DO SOMETHING about my problem skin until I was like… 30. I just figured I would always have breakouts, bad skin, and all that. When Ryan and I were engaged I decided I wanted to have clear skin for my wedding so a year ahead of time I went to see a dermatologist and started getting regular facials. The derm put me on a prescription cocktail, which included an oral antibiotic. And my skin was gorrrrrrgeous! It sure worked, y’all. But I didn’t want to be on meds forever (and you can’t when you’re pregnant/nursing anyway), so after a couple of years I decided to try to nail down a skincare routine instead.

And no, my skin is not perfect, but with lots of consistency and a few favorite products I definitely feel like my skin is not something that weighs heavy on my mind any more. I also do semi-regular facials (maybe once a quarter or so?) and wash my face at night religiously. I can reliably say that I have not gone to sleep with makeup on my face since I was 20. For reals.

So! Here’s what I use.

My Skin Care Routine

Daily

Bioelements Decongestant Cleanser  I’ve been using this cleanser for about 8 years now and it still works incredibly well for me. It’s gentle and doesn’t strip your skin but gets off all of the makeup and gunk, including eye makeup and mascara.

Kiehl’s Calendula Alcohol-Free Toner  I haven’t been a toner girl until recently because I always feel like they make my skin too dry. But this one doesn’t feel like it strips your natural oils, just clarifies things a bit.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Eye Cream  I wish I had started using eye cream sooner! This one brightens and tightens and feels good.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Gel Lotion  This is a new addition to my routine this summer and I loooove it. It’s nice and light for summer and it plumps up my skin and makes it look dewy.

Weekly

Eminence Bright Skin Licorice Root Exfoliating Peel  About once a week, I replace my toner with this peel. It functions like a toner but is actually a gentle exfoliator and I swear the next morning after I use it, my skin looks brighter.

Eminence Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer  Every so often I get a dry spot that wants a little extra moister, so I dab on some of this. It’s also a lifesaver during dry winter months.

Eminence Clear Skin Targeted Treatment  The only topical breakout treatment I have tried that actually works! I don’t know what’s in there, but it might be a little bit of sorcery. Usually calms down a breakout within about 24 hours.

Pixi Peel & Polish  I don’t often do physical face scrubs, but every once in a while (once a month maybe?) I like to work one in. I love this one because you can choose to scrub or not, but just leaving it on your skin for a couple of minutes gets that nice tingly exfoliation going.

Juice Beauty Instant Eye Lift Algae Mask  The first time I tried one of these I freaked because they totally work and I didn’t realize how tired I had looked before I used it. Hahahaha! I save these for special occasions and use the mask a short while before I put on my makeup.

And that’s about it! I’ve been slowly working more all-natural or organic products into my routine, and Eminence is such a great line for that. The products all smell really great and are super effective, which I have found isn’t always the case with organic lines. As some of my other products run out I’m hoping to keep on in that same direction.

And what about you? Do you have a specific routine for skin care? Or do you prefer to jump around and try lots of different products? Let me know in the comments! xoxo
