DIY Piñata Surprise Easter Eggs

Have I mentioned that I love Easter egg season? It’s seriously one of my favorite times of the year in blog land because I love dreaming up ideas to share here! I don’t think I’ve ever done a DIY with plastic eggs before (or maybe I have? I dunno, my memory is questionable these days!) but I had some sitting on my desk and thought a little piñata surprise Easter egg would be the perfect use for them. You can probably make these with things you have in your craft supply stash, which is one of my favorite ways to DIY. So let’s do it!

Materials

Make Time: 5 Minutes per egg

Step 1: Open plastic eggs so that they’re each in two pieces. Place two pieces open side down on a sheet of cardboard. Spray the outer shell of the eggs with spray adhesive. If you don’t have spray adhesive, cover the outer shell with a thin layer of ModPodge. Set aside and allow adhesive to get tacky.

Step 2: Decide the order of colors you’ll use for your crepe paper. Once you know what colors will be on the top and the bottom of the egg, cut a small circle of each of those colors and adhere to the top and bottom to cover the portion that won’t be covered by fringe.

Step 3: Cut a 2-foot section of crepe paper. Fold into an accordion. Cut into three sections so that you have three small accordions, each about 3/4″ wide. On each folded section, fringe one side with your scissors.

Step 4: Open up the fringe. Starting at the bottom of the lower half of the egg, start winding the fringe around the egg. Change colors as you desire. On the bottom half of the egg, finish the fringe level with the lip of the top of the egg. Continue on the lower portion of the upper half of the egg.

Once your eggs are all fringed, put some surprises inside and play Easter bunny! These would be so fun in a kiddo’s Easter basket or even filled with fun goodies for your gal pals. I’m leaving mine out on our table in a little centerpiece. What would you hide in yours?! xoxo
