Tequila Lemon Cocktail Recipe: Part Time Lover

|

The Part Time Lover is the perfect tequila lemon cocktail recipe! Refreshing and fun, it’s a great summertime sip.

A Perfect Tequila and Lemon Cocktail

We’re no stranger to mixing tequila with lemon, but this cocktail takes it to the next level! I’m a huge fan of cocktails that are easy to mix but taste like something you’d order at a fun, hip bar — and the Part Time Lover is exactly that.

If you love tequila cocktails, don’t miss the Tequila Sparkler or the classic Paloma. This spicy margarita is also a great one to keep in your rotation.

History and Why We Love This Cocktail

The Part Time Lover doesn’t have a long history, but I just love the flavors so much it was worth including in our cocktail series.

The recipe was originally created in 2016 Los Angeles, by 2016 by Jon Weimorts. I’ve since seen it in a few different variations, but this one is my favorite and, in my opinion, the simplest to make.

The tequila and lemon in the Part Time Lover is a familiar and delicious combination, but what I love about the cocktail is the addition of Aperol and St Germain. One bittersweet, one floral, these two liqueurs make this cocktail feel complex and layered but still so easy to sip!

Ingredients You’ll Need

Tequila. While, in my opinion, the Part Time Lover is best with reposado tequila, you know my mantra is always use what you’ve got!

Aperol. Aperol has a bitter-sweet gentian flavor and is so incredible when combined with something a little sweet. Have you made our classic Aperol Spritz?

St Germain. One of my favorite special bottles to keep around, and it elevates every cocktail you add it to! It’s particularly great in a French Gimlet and our Hugo Spritz.

Lemon Juice. As always, when you’re making a cocktail, freshly squeezed citrus juice makes for the most delicious drink.

Angustora Bitters. A great addition to keep in your home bar if you’re experimenting with mixology.

How to Make a Part Time Lover

  • 1 1/2 oz tequila
  • 1/2 oz Aperol
  • 1/2 oz St Germain
  • 3/4 oz lemon juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • citrus for garnish (grapefruit, orange, or lemon would all work)

Fill a shaker with ice. Add tequila, Aperol, St Germain, lemon juice, and bitters to the shaker. Shake until chilled. Strain over ice in a rocks glass, and garnish with a slice of grapefruit or orange.

When To Serve

I’m envisioning you pouring these cocktails for friends as you prep a little snack board and chat! Perfect for a group hang or a lazy summer evening on the patio.

Cheers! xoxo
