What is a Corpse Reviver No. 2 Cocktail?
You might be wondering why this little drink is called a Corpse Reviver in the first place!
Legend has it that a Corpse Reviver, No. 2 or otherwise, was created with the specific purpose of bringing the drinker back from the dead.
As in, if you’re hung over, this is the drink that that’ll cure your ails. A little hair of the dog, so to speak.

Ingredients You’ll Need
Gin. Ideally, this cocktail would use a London Dry gin, which has a crisp and clean flavor, without much added sweetness. But! Use what you’ve got.
Cointreau. If you don’t have Cointreau specifically, any triple sec or orange liqueur will work in a pinch.
Lillet Blanc. I love having a bottle of Lillet Blanc around! You an also use this to make our White Negroni.
Lemon Juice. Freshly squeezed is always the best!
Absinthe. Some folks use absinthe as a wash with the Corpse Reviver No. 2, just rinsing the inside of the glass before you pour the cocktail. But you’ll see how we use it below.
Simple Syrup. If you don’t have any on hand, you can make your own with this simple recipe.
How to Make a Corpse Reviver No. 2 Cocktail
- 3/4 oz London dry gin
- 3/4 oz Cointreau triple sec
- 3/4 oz Lillet Blanc
- 3/4 oz lemon juice
- 2 dashes Absinthe
- Optional: 2 dashes simple syrup
Fill a shaker with ice. Add gin, Cointreau, Lillet Blanc, lemon juice, Absinthe, and simple syrup to the shaker. Shake until chilled.
Strain over a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a lemon twist if desired.
When to Serve
Aside from its alleged benefit of bringing you back to life from a hangover, the Corpse Reviver No. 2 is a perfect brunch drink!
It’s a lovely blend of sweet and sour, while being fruity and very refreshing.
Serve for brunch in place of mimosas or bloody marys – and drink responsibly! xoxo
