window shopping: typewriter inspired

Vintage typewriters seem to be all the rage these days among the design-minded, and I’ve come across more than a few items that are inspired by the trend.  From Etsy to Kate Spade, everyone’s on the bandwagon!  What’s your fave?

1.  Typewriter print from John Derian Company.  2.  Baseball Tee from Lunar Mountain Arts.  3.  Cufflinks from Churoncalla.  4.  Typewriter bag from Kate Spade.  5.  Printed tote from The Bold Banana.  6.  Wall art from Pottery Barn.

And while we’re at it, how about some art that’s not featuring typewriters, but was created by typewriters?  Ever heard of Keira Rathbone?  Keira’s most well known for her typewriter art — she uses key strokes on vintage typewriters to create images.  While other artists are using brushes or paint, she’s typing away.  You can check out her gallery here, but I thought I’d give you a little taste.  Her portrait of Kate Moss is my fave.  Tell me this isn’t inspired!  xoxo

  1. Aloha! What a pleasure your Lovely Indeed! continues to be! My father was a printer in the “old days” , setting all by hand or linotype. He owned the Waterford News and the printing business accompanying the weekly newspaper. My sister and I had no idea we were “poor”, and I still marvel at the amount of “trading” that went on — a lug of peaches, a rhubarb pie, a crate of eggs, and so forth. Anyhow, I have an original wooden type case, used for sorting individual type blocks, that I would love to send you and Ryan if it is something you would like to have. Knowing you are “on the road” I could also send it to your Mother. If you are unsure, I’ll be happy to send a photo, or it it’s a resounding “NO” that’s fine too! With much Aloha, Marlene Sabo

    1. @Marlene — wow! What a cool thing your father did! I’d absolutely love to see the type case — it sounds right up our alley. 🙂 You are too sweet! xoxo

    1. Hi there! Apologies if you’re feeling like this post is “shady.” This was written a few years back and the bag is no longer in production. Apologies also that you’re getting kicked off the site. Can you give me any more information there? We’d love to address the issue, and any further information (what browser an machine you’re using) would help us make your experience better. Thanks!
