travel // union station

On the way home from a recent trip to visit my family, I ended up taking Amtrak into LA instead of driving. I always forget how much I love train travel. It feels so old-school and kind of glamorous (even if they serve microwaved hamburgers in the food car — blech).

But my very favorite thing about taking the train to LA is getting off at Union Station. If you haven’t ever been there, it’s an absolute must-do. I think that I might be able to say that for me, it’s the most beautiful spot in LA. I had some time to kill after I got off my train, so I ran around all giddy with my phone and snapped some Instagrams. After that, I just sat myself down in the gorgeous little courtyard and let the evening breeze do some magic.

Have you been to Union Station? Is it a fave of yours, too? And if you’re in LA, do you have any other faves that I shouldn’t miss? xoxo

  1. Definitely a favorite place! And your photos capture it SO well! And who could resist a margarita on Olvera Street after a journey, or a martini at Traxx Bar…

  2. i LOVE union station. i commuted through there daily for two years and felt so in awe of it every time i walked through. wait until christmas when they have a brass quartet playing holiday music in the tunnel!

other LA faves — olvera street for tacos, griffith observatory, outdoor movies at the hollywood forever cemetery, garlic bread from the smoke house, tea cakes from martino’s bakery in burbank, shopping in pasadena. (sorry that most of these revolve around food.)

  3. The Union Station is very cool. I remember going when I would ride from LA to San Diego to visit college friends during undergrad. It’s very clean. I love that ride too, right a long the coast 🙂 Xo Inna. Baking in Couture

  4. Found you via Poppytalk – welcome to the DIY contributor family! I looovvee Union Station. I was lucky enough to commute through it everyday while living in Downtown and working in Pasadena. Not sure where in LA you live but catch the Metro Gold Line from the station and go to Old Pasadena. The architecture there is unlike any other spot in LA (at least collectively). The city hall is beautiful too. Wilshire also has some great buildings but it does require walking a bit – lots of museums and restaurants to pop into though 🙂
