Here’s the deal: Sarasota is amazing. I mean, you think “I’m spending a summer working in Florida,” and you know that it’ll be cool, but you don’t really know exactly what kind of cool. Here’s the kind of cool I’m talking about:
We’re staying in bungalow housing a few short blocks from downtown. We can walk the couple of blocks and be smack in the middle of a bunch of great boutiques and restaurants upon restaurants. Aside from all of that, we’re working at Florida Studio Theatre, which is right downtown as well — along with an opera house and another local theatre. Suffice it to say there’s plenty of culture and plenty to do.
We’re a few minutes’ drive from multiple beaches; so far my fave is Siesta Key beach, with its soft white sand (that doesn’t get hot!). About three blocks from our housing is the Sarasota Ritz Carlton, where we can wander in for a drink or to use the pool and feel glamorous for the afternoon.
And to top it all off, the locals here are kind of adorable. Yes, they’re mostly retirees, but they’re retirees who love to party. They’re always out and about — having dinner, having drinks, going to the theatre, going dancing. They know how to have a good time and they’re not bashful about doing it. So far, Sarasota is my kind of town. xoxo
