today’s debate // 6

It’s Friday, and you know what that means…

Welcome to Today’s Debate, where we weigh in on the sublime, the ridiculous, and everything in between! It’s been a good week, so let’s get a little deep, y’all. Up for debate today: How do you deal when it comes to confrontation?

Today's Debate

Hug. Kick.

Are you a peacemaker or a pot stirrer? Are you comfortable with confrontation? How do you roll when an uncomfortable situation comes your way?

I wish I could say otherwise, but I’m a peacemaker through and through. I literally feel a slight tinge of physical illness when I’m involved in a confrontation (which is almost never, because I avoid them like the plague). I placate and try to keep everyone around me happy so that confrontation just never arises. Do I think it’s healthy? Nope. But there it is.

I know girls on all parts of the spectrum, though. I’ve literally seen girls make up stories right in front of my face to get a rise out of someone or to make another person look bad. I mean, right in front of my face! Just to cause some intrigue or create bad blood. It boggles my mind! I also know a few gals who live in the sweet spot — they don’t seek out confrontation but are able to handle themselves like champs when confrontation finds them. I admire those girls. I always want to be one of those girls.

So which girl are you? Do you crave drama and love seeing it happen? Or do you try to squash confrontation? Peacemaker or pot stirrer, I’d love to hear your stories! xoxo

  1. Great post! I’m not into confrontation – I like to save my drama for the stage! That being said, if there’s an issue I handle it immediately. Over the years, I’ve found that simply not gossiping has prevented so many confrontations! Also eliminating Girl Hate has helped solidify the long-term friendships I still hold today.

  2. I’m with you! The idea of confrontation makes me want to vomit and leads to sleepless, anxiety-filled nights.

Although once in awhile, if I’m way too stressed and have been letting little things build up for far too long I will absolutely explode over something as small as someone breathing on me. And then I will apologize profusely and begin my cycle anew!

  3. Ok, any one who seeks out confrontation for the sole sake of getting a rise out of someone has some serious issues! I can’t believe you’ve seen it in action! I guess some people never mature out of the drama-highschool mental state.
I am in no way afraid of confrontation but don’t seek it out. If there is an issue I prefer to deal with it. Most of the time, it involves a 10 minute calm conversation and then it’s all good. That sounds so much better than holding resentment or bitterness unnecessarily to me.

  4. I am such a peacemaker. Before I became an event coordinator, I was majoring in French to be a foreign diplomat! I really love compromise and benefiting all.

I do love drama though, but only in the form of Pretty Little Liars. It’s a vice.

  5. I’m definitely a peacemaker but I don’t mind confrontation either. I have no problem sticking up for myself or friends. But I won’t go there unless I feel it is absolutely necessary. – I think we all like a little drama, but that’s why we have TV and movies, right?

    – tianna 🙂

  6. I’m a little bit of both. Like everyone else here, confrontation causes me such anxiety. That said, I firmly believe in (1) standing up for yourself, (2) standing up for what’s right, and (3) making people think. Sometimes that means you have to stir a few pots. It’s almost part of my job. On the flip side, I’m absolutely the peacekeeper in my family and sometimes at work. I easily find the middle ground and like to help folks interpret and understand where other people are coming from. I’m not sure what all of this says about me 🙂
