Saving Face

Honesty bomb: I have bad skin. I have my whole life. I remember when I got engaged the very first thing I did was make an appointment with a dermatologist because the only thing I could think of was how frustrated I’d be if I had to worry about breakouts on my wedding day.

If you’ve ever dealt with acne, you know what I’m talking about — the sinking feeling when you know that a breakout is coming, or having an ugly spot on your face totally ruin your day. Sometimes I feel like I’ve spent my life searching for the perfect products to fix, hide, conceal, cover, treat, zap, blah blah blah. Come on, skin! These days I mostly have it under control but I do get flare-ups every so often.

Enter my new favorite thing: bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation. When bareMinerals recently announced their new product, I was really pumped to try it because my skin and I are currently not speaking. It needs a little help. bareSkin seemed like an interesting choice because it’s got clean, pure ingredients like Vitamin C and plant stem cells (and no oils or fragrance), but it can provide as much or as little coverage as you like. When I first buffed it on (yeah, you buff it on with this fancy Perfecting Face Brush like a total professional), I could barely feel it but I could see that it was evening out my skin tone and subtly covering the spots that were making me feel self-conscious. It didn’t look cakey or makeup-y. It just looked like a really good version of my skin. Double bonus: it’s got SPF as well.

Because I’m feeling bold, and because I seriously love this stuff, I’m letting it all hang out with a good ol’ before and after. The before is a completely bare face, freshly washed. And the after is with about 4 drops of bareSkin, using the perfecting brush. (No other product and no photoshop!) It’s crazy how it evens out my redness and covers those scary little spots, but still doesn’t feel heavy. Don’t judge my before, y’all!

I’d love to know if you’ve ever struggled with your skin like I do! Or if you have a skin routine that you love. When I find a product I love, I just get so encouraged and want to run through the streets telling everyone I pass — just in case it can help someone else, too. Thanks bareMinerals! xoxo

  1. I really want to try this product! I love the bare minerals powders but they’ve become too drying for me. I struggle with my skin too – redness, dryness and acne. For me what’s really helped is exfoliation everyday and using honey as a face wash. Thanks for sharing your story! 🙂

  2. I know exactly what you’re talking about! People who don’t struggle with acne just think I’m being dramatic and hypersensitive. I will try this product. I have found success in using Cetaphil and my Clarisonic twice daily and I follow up with 10% glycolic acid at night and 5% glycolic acid in the morning before my usual face lotion and skinceuticals SPF 25 face sunscreen. I just got married 2 weeks ago and my skin had been fine for several months until 3 days before the wedding 2 under the skin zits started brewing. Thankfully I was able to make an emergency derm appointment and my Dr injected cortisone and gave me prednisone to help keep off any possible breakouts until the big day. It was a serious lifesaver and my wedding was beautiful and I felt beautiful. Thanks for being brave enough to share your story and your before picture!!

  3. Fun!! Alli and I were just at an event this weekend and were introduced to this product and we were both very intrigued and excited. Now that I’ve seen it here, I think its meant to be. Hope it lives up to the hype!!

    PS. You’re gorg…before AND after!

  4. oh god, yes! thank you. i’m 35, and acne has started flaring up for me. AGAIN. cystic acne, no less, plus hyperpigmentation. *heavy sigh* i’ll have to try this out sometime.
