I hate to admit it, but I’m getting wayyyy into the whole holidays-with-kids thing. Every holiday that comes along is a chance for me to bake/decorate/celebrate/DIY/craft up a storm, and I swear it’s thanks to my kids. They totally inspire all of these ideas, just because I like to think up things that they would get a kick out of. And that’s why these little heart guys were born. (Even though I have to admit I think they’re pretty cute for grownups too.) Here’s how to make these quick and cute Rice Krispies Heart Valentines!
Materials and Ingredients
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 bag mini marshmallows (10 ox)
- 3 TBSP butter
- 13×9″ pan
- cooking spray
- heart cookie cutters
- pink chocolate melts (light and dark)
- black gel icing
- optional: lollipop sticks (I like these reusable ones)
Make Time: 1 Hour
Step 1: Make your Rice Krispies Treats according to the instructions on the box. Spread them into the pan and smooth out the top with a spatula that has been sprayed with the cooking spray.
Step 2: Use the cookie cutter to cut out hearts.
Step 3: Melt your chocolate according to the instructions on the packaging. Just melt one color at a time.
Step 4: Once your chocolate is melted, dip a heart gently onto the surface of the chocolate, with the smooth side pressing down onto the chocolate. Dip it a few times and use the smooth edge of a butter knife to smooth out the chocolate. Repeat with all of the hearts, melting the other chocolate color for half of the hearts if you wish.
Step 5: Once the chocolate has cooled on the hearts, use the black gel icing to draw little smiley faces (or grumpy faces!) on the hearts.
Step 6: If you wish, you can insert a lollipop stick into the bottom of the hearts to make them into pops.
That’s it! I think they’re pretty adorable. Henry insisted that we make a couple of “grumpy ones” too, which is how we ended up with the frowny faces. 😉 The happy ones kind of remind me of the ban.do hearts, which makes them even better!
Make these just for fun, or make them and hand them out as class Valentines! Happy baking! xoxo
