make and give // diy gold nugget earrings
Hi guys! So are we all on the DIY holiday gift train? I’ve got another one today for your stylish sister or best friend — we’re making gold nugget earrings!
Of course, our nuggets are made out of clay and the gold is painted on, but hey — I’ll take it. Here’s what you’ll need:
- sculpting clay
- sculpting tool or knife
- earring backs
- gold paint
- small paintbrush
- super glue
Start by cutting off a small amount of clay with a nice flat backside (haha, I said backside). Use your tool to cut angles off of the piece of clay until you’re happy with the shape. Make two of these.
Bake the clay according to the instructions on the package. Let it cool and paint it gold.
Superglue the earring backs to the flat side of the gold nuggets. Let everything dry thoroughly.
This little project comes together really quickly, and would be so easy to make in big batches to give to lots of people! Put them on a cute little card when you give them and watch people be impressed. Make it and give it! xoxo
So cute! I love that you even put them on a geometric backing, perfect to give as a present!
Thanks Yelle! I had some extra paper from another project and it ended up being perfect. Glad you like it!
!!! Such a good idea!
These are so, so lovely, and couldn’t be more up my alley. I think this just moved to the top of my to do list. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome Mandy! Make sure you send us a photo if you make them. 🙂
Really like these!
I have stuff called Keramiplast at home. It’s ceramic clay and I guess it would also work out great to make these.
Hi Lela! I think the Keramiplast sounds like it would work perfectly. Have fun!
Too cute!
Nice and simple idea!
Oh, I love this! I’m going to get the materials to make this TONIGHT!
Awesome! Send a photo if you do!
I made them! And a bunch more…
What kind of paint did you use?

Oh my gosh, those little lightbulbs are awesome! I love them all. I used the Martha Stewart Liquid Gilding paint in gold.
Nice! I was a little disappointed in the gold paint I used. I may go back over them with that stuff, it looks like gold leaf! Thanks again for sharing this, so easy!
