We’re sharing another sweet detail from Miss Maggie’s first birthday! I love to make birthday cakes for my kids, but they’re really never anything fancy. (This baby is box Funfetti and I am not ashamed.) But I always like to add a little fun touch when we decorate the cakes to make them feel special. So I decided to make a sprinkle cake with a pompom cake topper, because Mags is alllll about those pompoms. I had been trying to think of some of her favorite things to include in the birthday (like balloons, from yesterday’s post), and it hit me that she’s constantly stealing my yarn in the studio. So we did some easy little pompoms for her cake. They’re super simple!

Materials

Make Time: 5 Minutes per Pompom

Step 1: Use a small pompom maker to create your pompoms using this tutorial.

Step 2: Once you have the number of pompoms you’d like, use your glue gun to attach them to the top of bamboo skewers. Separate the yarn on the pompom and place a large dot of hot glue in the pompom. Press the top of a bamboo skewer into the glue and let the yarn down to hide the glue. Keep attaching pompoms to skewers until you’re done.

Step 3: Insert the skewers individually into the top of the cake!

By the way, we used these sprinkles from Shop Sweet Lulu, also known as the best sprinkles in the world. They’re just so colorful and cute (and some of them are chocolate!). The gold #1 is right here, and we used these gold candles. It all came together to make such a sweet combo! Sweet Marguerite loved it. I wish I had gotten a photo of the inside of the cake but after we cut it we were partying so hard I just didn’t think of it. Maybe it’s better that way. 😉 xoxo
