Lots Going On

barn

I just thought I’d hit you guys with a little update on where the heck I am and what the heck I’m doing these days! I’ve been hanging out in Modesto (my hometown), spending time with family and helping my mom recover from her recent hip replacement. Do you guys have any experience with a joint replacement? Boy, it’s tough work. It’s a rehab process that’s grueling, but my mom is meeting it head-on and being such a trooper. Doesn’t make it any easier, but the promise of a better quality of life after it heals is so encouraging. So I’m playing nurse/chef/maid and helping out around my parents’ house.

In more jazzy news, I’m performing in a production of Cabaret with Modesto Performing Arts! It’s pretty incredible to come back to my hometown after being away in NYC and now LA, and perform with the theatre company where I started. I’ll be playing Sally Bowles (the Liza Minnelli role, for y’all who know), and I’m so stoked to be sinking my teeth into  that brilliant and devastating role. And the icing on the cake is that Mr. Lovely is playing Cliff — Sally’s love interest. Oh, how I love to be on stage with that fella.

So long story short, it’s been a busy summer so far. That’s kind of the understatement of the year. But I love it this way and I’m loving what I’m doing. And I also am so grateful that I can be blogging while I do it all. I’ll be continuing to share info and photos with you guys, so be sure to follow my Instagram and come back for updates! xoxo

  1. I have experience with hip recovery and I know what a mental game the recovery process is, let alone overcoming the physical pain. Your Mom is lucky to have you!! Sending you lots and lots of well-wishes and wishes for a speedy recovery, too! All the very best.

  2. Hey! First-time commenter but my husband had both his hips replaced six weeks apart a few years ago. It is a tough process but so worth it – all his pain was gone afterward and he’s like a new man! Good luck to your mama!

  3. I haven’t gone through it with my family, but I’ve watched my boss have both knees replaced and although the recovery is difficult, it is amazing how much better it is for the person after that. Like solid working joint.

Congrats on the play! How neat that you get to work alongside your honey still!

  4. You’re from Modesto?? Wow, I lived in Turlock about 10 years ago and then moved to Visalia. Now I’m attending UC Merced, hopefully I can make it out there to see you!

    Much love xoxox

  5. I can only imagine how tough it is on your mom with hip replacement. My dad has had both of his shoulders worked on, one in the last five years. I’ve heard him talk a lot about how important it is to do the rehab and once you’re done to keep working that area. To this day he still does some small movements from rehab!

  6. It is amazing that your life allows you to do that! My mom has 2 artificial knees and 1 artificial hip. The other one needed it,but she waited too long and other health issues got in the way. So glad Elaine was able to do it while she is still young! Hoping I never need any!
