It’s here! It’s here! It’s the holiday season! I can’t deny it whatsoever — every year when the Michaels Dream Tree Challenge rolls around, I get so excited at the chance to get into the holiday spirit a little early. I know we’re just barely putting away our Halloween costumes, but a girl’s gotta plan, right? So if you’re looking for a fresh take on your holiday tree, we’ve got you covered.

I was so excited to find this particular tree this year. It’s tall and white (and pre-lit, yay!) but it’s super slim so it’s perfect for little corners or small spaces. I was also pleasantly surprised that it fit a whole bunch of ornaments on it, despite being so slim. This tree is going to live in our studio this year, which is why we chose the fun pink, red, and green color palette. I also threw in a little pale blue just for an unexpected pop, to keep things modern and interesting. The Merry Memories line at Michaels had these incredible, shatter-proof oversized ornaments that have kind of a vintage vibe that I totally loved and looks super fun with the bright white tree. That’s Henry in the photo below, helping me shop for our decorations. He was totally enchanted by the little doors on one of the advent calendars. So darn sweet. They actually have a few different holiday decor collections that make it super easy to create a really beautiful, pulled-together look for your holiday decorations. There’s everything from tree trimmings to DIY supplies, so you can bet that I’m basically there at least once a week from now until the end of the year, getting my holiday on. đŸ˜‰

I wanted to add a little DIY touch to the tree decor, so we made these pretty yarn twists. To do the same, cut about 12-15 strands of yarn into pieces that are about 2 yards long. Knot both ends of the strands and start twisting. Twist the yarn until it’s so tight it wants to roll in on itself. Hold the yarn twist at the halfway point and let it twist in, evening out the twists as needed. Then tie the two ends of the yarn together to keep the twists together. You can hang these individually, kind of like tassels, or make super long ones and wind them around the tree like garland. We wove ours in and out of the branches of the tree here and there.

We also snagged some other bright, happy pieces from the Merry Memories line that are so fun — the kids absolutely love the Santa pillow and the sparkly Santa face. I got a few holiday mugs that we plan on using throughout the season, and we filled them with hot chocolate while we were taking photos (along with entirely too many marshmallows, which is exactly as it should be đŸ˜‰ ). The candy cane trees and the tiny reindeer aren’t technically tree ornaments, but we popped them onto the tree also and I love how they look. I finished off our little Christmasy corner with some vintage-style tin signs (I love the tinsel one! Haha!). They hang really well on the pegboard that we keep in our studio, or you could even hang them in the tree, which would look really fun.

So what’s the verdict? How do we feel about a little pink in the Christmas tree mix? I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t hang out around these parts if you weren’t going to be on the heck yes side of that debate, but I always just like to check. đŸ˜‰ Hope you’re all getting excited about the impending holiday season! xoxo

  1. I love, love, love this tree! ? Pink and white are MUST-HAVE colours in the Christmas decor ’round these parts, but unfortunately over here we don’t have amazing shops like Michael’s and it makes me so sad ? Everything I’ve ever seen Michael’s just looks amazing. If I ever get to visit America I know I’ll be filling up all my bags with goodies from this store to bring home ?

  2. The pink is gorgeous. I might have to do that for my bedroom. I choose black and white for my main tree. I hope you’ll Check it out and follow along?
