Forget the flowers, forget the chocolate, and definitely forget the giant teddy bears. I’m thinking that this classic DIY of ours is way better than any of that for Valentine’s Day! We teamed up with North Star Balloons to make this little dream of mine come true and it was a complete blast to run around, bombing downtown with balloon love. I initially called them our “Guerilla Valentines” but “balloon love notes” is a lot sweeter, right? 😉 We met so many fun people who were wondering what we were doing, and it was so fun to see people come up and take photos under the balloons we left! I’m still on cloud nine. If you want a super-fast, super-simple, but high impact way to tell your Valentine you love ’em, grab some balloons and get going!
DIY Balloon Love Note Valentines
Step 1: Decide on the phrase that you’d like to spell out. The sky’s the limit, but keep in mind that short phrases will be easier to manage while you’re hanging them up. Inflate all of your balloons using the balloon pump. I also like to tape back the little inflation flap on each balloon so that the letters look nice and clean. To do this, just make sure you’re looking at the front of the letter, then fold the flap around to the back and secure with clear tape.
Step 2: Start stringing the letters onto your twine. Be sure that each letter is facing front as you string them on, and that you don’t accidentally spell your words backwards! Each letter has two holes at the top for stringing. I like to always come through the back to the front on the first hole, then the front to the back on the second hole. If you keep a continuous pattern like that your letters will lay nice and flat after you hang them up.
Step 3: Hang them somewhere! If you can find a fence or some sort of post to tie the ends to, go ahead and to that. Otherwise, tape either end with duct tape to secure your balloon love note Valentines.
These are just too fun! They’re perfect for a surprise, like we did, or even decorations at a Valentine’s Day party! Whether they’re for your Valentine or your Galentines, they’re totally fun. And if you don’t want to leave them for just one person, do like we did and just spread some love around your town! (Be sure to go back later and take the balloons down, lest you get arrested for littering. Or graffiti. Or any of the other myriad crimes I was afraid we’d get arrested for.) We also may or may not have tied some in the bushes in my sister’s front yard for her family to discover, which led to some pretty adorable photos of my niece and nephew.
So be a rebel and give some guerrilla Valentines this year! xoxo
