If you ever need a way to find all of the missing bobby pins in your life, just move. We’re packing up our apartment and under every piece of furniture, in the back of every drawer, and in every pocket is a tiny pile of bobby pins that I thought were long gone. This problem has literally been plaguing me since high school. And the other day I remembered how I used to keep bobby pins in my backpack — in an old Tic Tac box! Seriously! It was brilliant and somewhere along the line I forgot all about it. Now Tic Tac has these crazy Jumbo Packs that I thought would make a perfect grownup bobby pin case, so I figured out how to make a DIY Tic Tac bobby pin case. And obviously, my purse has never been so clean.

Materials

Make Time: 20 Minutes (plus drying time)

Step one: Enjoy those delicious Tic Tacs. If you have an empty container, you’re a step ahead. If you just want them so that you can make a bobby pin case, I salute you. Maybe you can get a bunch of friends to help you polish them off so that you can get your DIY on. Perhaps you just empty them into a little bowl and keep it on your desk. However you want to make it happen, get yourself an empty Tic Tac case.

On the bottom of the pack, use the end of the dowel to dip in your gold paint and gently touch it to the plastic to make a polka dot pattern. (Because every good DIY involves gold polka dots.)

In a well-ventilated area, spray paint the lid of the pack gold. I recommend letting the paint cure for about a day, unless you want to get it all fingerprinty.

Once all pieces are dry, round up all of your bobby pins and store them in the bottom of the pack. When you need one, just open the tab where you would shake out a mint and shake out a bobby pin instead! Your purse and the bottom of your drawers will thank you. And there you have it: How to make a DIY Tic Tac bobby pin case! xoxo

  1. such a great idea! those things get lost everywhere! I can’t even imagine where they are hidden in this apartment…

  2. I use a tic tac pack too, but for my cross stitching needles! I do not want to lose any of them in a drawer or in my purse haha

      1. I’ve lost one once… somewhere on the couch.

My boyfriend found it. Well, to be more precise, his leg found it. He did not appreciate that little surprise haha oups

  3. This is an awesome idea Chelsea! I always have to go on a little scavenger hunt to find a bobby pin. I defiantly would benefit from having a cute little case to keep them in one place!

  9. I used those big old gum containers for numerous things, even spices lol! Luckily, Goody now sells bobby pins in a plastic reusable container. This has saved my life! I also have bobby pins everywhere, literally everywhere. Nice to know I’m not the only one who has that problem. I’ll have to remember to actually decorate these containers. Thanks!!

  11. I also take empty Tic Tac cases and put them in my daughter’s blood sugar meter case to store her used test strips (she has Type 1 Diabetes). I will definitely be bedazzling one for her millions of bobby pins for dance competitions.

  14. This is such a great idea! As a dancer, I am always trying to find better ways of organising my pins and hair accessories. But since I live in Australia, and I don’t really eat tic tacs anyway, I was wondering if you know if they sell those big boxes here?

  18. Hi, firstly I just wanted to let you know that I love your site, and secondly I’m unfortunately from Australia and in Australia we only have regular sized (which look more like “tiny sized” in comparison to your large/jumbo sized, shown in your pictures)and they aren’t the same shape either, they’re a rectangular, boxy shape. So, I guess I was just wondering if our “Australian containers” would work for this project?
    Cheers 😉

  31. I use the tins from mints like the trader joes and starbucks. They already have a great design outside for a keepsake but great for bobby pins and hairties and keep in makeup bag or purse.
