Halloween Craft: Spider Paperweight
This creepy crawly Halloween craft is a cheeky little nod to spooky season! Create a spider paperweight for fun or as a unique Halloween gift.
This project is cracking me up! I’m a big fan of working with resin and I think it’s so fun to dream up stuff to encase in it!
I was wandering around the Halloween section and saw these fuzzy fake tarantulas and thought how hilarious it would be to stick one on my mom’s nightstand and freak her out.
Then I thought twice because nobody wants to be responsible for their own mother’s heart attack, so I decided to put it in a paperweight on my own desk instead.

Alternative Ideas for Your Halloween Paperweight Craft
If the idea of a tarantula hanging out on your desk is just a little too creepy for your taste, there are lots of other ideas you could try!
Switch up this Halloween craft by adding different items to your paperweight instead.
You could sprinkle in some teeny tiny skulls (they come in black and white) or bones for fun.
Or to make it less “Halloween” and more “fall,” these little acrylic pumpkins would look really pretty floating in the resin. Maybe even add in some glitter for fun!
Supplies You’ll Need
Silicone Mold. This mold is traditionally used for soap but works perfectly for this project!
Fake Spiders. These have a furry look to them, but you can also use the plastic spiders that you might find in a toy section.
Resin Kit. I love this kit because it mixes well and comes out nice and clear!
Disposable Plastic Cups. For mixing your resin — you’ll want to discard these when you’re done.
Popsicle Sticks. For mixing, so have a few extra around!
Scissors.
How to Make a Paperweight Halloween Craft
- Use the scissors to trim down the legs of your spider if they are taller than your mold cups. I recommend trimming them so that they end about 1/2″ below the top of the mold cup.
- Mix the resin and hardener according to the instructions on your packaging. If you use the same mold and resin that we listed above, you’ll need to use all of the resin and hardener. You’ll also need to mix it in larger cups than are provided in the kit.
- Pour about 1/4″ of resin into one of the molds.
- Sink your spider into the mold, being sure to put the top of the spider toward the top of the mold so that it looks upside-down to you.
- Pour in the remaining resin.
- Allow the resin to cure and harden according to packaging instructions.
How to Display Your Halloween Paperweight
Once it’s completely hardened, remove it from the silicone mold and enjoy!
You can set these on your own desk for fun, give them to teachers for a Halloween surprise, or set a bunch of ’em out at a party on the refreshments table to spook people out.
Mine is keeping my desk supplies company as we speak. xoxo
