DIY Geometric Photobooth Backdrop
This is one of those projects that came out exactly how I wanted it to. I’m always so pumped when that happens! I’m also pretty pumped to have partnered on this installation of our backdrop series with ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape!
ScotchBlue has long been my favorite tape to mask and paint with — it always seems to give the cleanest borders. And I have to let you know how blown away Mr. Lovely and I were with the tape we used on this particular project. This was the first time I’ve used their tape with the Edge Lock feature and truly, the edges of the lines on this project came out sharper than any I’ve ever made. It’s gorgeous!
We made a little video to give you the lowdown on how to put this together, but it’s pretty darn simple.
And since you’re here, check out the post that earned me the title of Photo Backdrop Queen.
Music by Bliss Blood & Al Street
Materials
- clean painter’s dropcloth (ours was 4′ x 5′)
- ScotchBlue Painter’s Tape
- paint in various colors
- paintbrushes or rollers
- self-adhesive wall hooks and clips for hanging
Make Time: 2-3 Hours
Spread your dropcloth out and smooth the surface. Decide on a pattern and lay tape out accordingly. Smooth the edges of the tape to ensure that no paint seeps underneath. Paint the blank spaces on the dropcloth. Allow to dry fully, and hang on the wall. We used small self-adhesive hooks and binder clips, clipped along the top edge of the backdrop.
Now go have yourself some fun in front of your photobooth! I’m thinking this project would also make an awesome picnic blanket, or just a good old piece of art to hang on the wall. And be sure to check out ScotchBlue’s Facebook Page, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest for more ideas and inspiration. xoxo

Great! 🙂
Oh goodness. You and Mr. Lovely are too cute! I’ve been painting fabric lately for several projects and I love how it turned out. What kind of paint did you use?
Hi Margeaux! We actually found some great colors at Sherwin Williams and got their sample quart sizes (it’s called Color to Go) — it saves a little money and it’s a great quality paint. So it was an interior paint in a satin finish.
just found your blog through the proper pinwheel, so cute! i love the photos at the bottom, my husband would never…well mat=ybe, with a lot of bribing!
So glad you’re here, Maggie!
