DIY Painted Terra Cotta Pots

DIY Painted Terra Cotta Pots

Have you noticed that I’m on a potted plant binge? We were never really able to have plants in our apartment in New York because there was no sun and the poor things would have just shriveled! But here, we’ve got the sun thing down so I’m decking out our place with some greenery. Today we’re painting terra cotta pots, so if you’d like some of these colorblocked cuties, grab your materials.

  • small terra cotta pots
  • white spray paint
  • foam brush
  • acrylic or latex paint in your favorite color

Start with clean, dry pots and get a layer of white spray paint on them. Mine took a couple of coats.

Let the white dry and use your foam brush to brush on a block of color at the base of your pot. I freehanded mine because I wanted a natural edge.

If you’re me, the next step is to decide that you hate the color you chose and paint over that color with another color. I debated starting with gold and should have gone with my gut — it’s so much better this way!

Let them dry for a good day or so before you pot your plants; here’s a tutorial for potting. Then hang or set them out — that’s all there is to it! And if you missed the video on how to make the plant hangers, you should definitely check it out here. xoxo
